2000: The Emperor’s New Groove I don’t think Disney is ever gonna make another film like this, and that’s okay. This film messes with tropes while still having a good story and hilarious characters. I laughed at the jokes as a kid, and I still laugh at the jokes as an adult. My family even recites quotes to each other to this day. A heroic figure, a beautiful princess, a comedic sidekick, a theatrical scene-hogging villain, and a furry thing to sell plushies, served up with lots of songs. Kingdom Of The Sun was supposed to continue this tradition. Then, somewhere along the way, it got GROOVED. Sensing the film wasn’t working, the Disney execs were threatening to kill the project in 1998 unless someone could turn it around. Having nothing to lose, Mark Dindal became the new director and took it in an insane direction, abandoning anything familiar in favor of an all-out cartoon comedy.
