The forest floor is awash with the verdant fresh greens of new growth but it plays second fiddle to the swathes of almost purple English Bluebells dissecting the frame beneath tall thin trees that are just setting the first green leaves of Spring. Then, again, some are different. Most Bluebells are blue or deep purple but every now and then you come across a patch of white ones.

More from yesterday’s walk in our local ancient woodland where the bluebells are flowering in such profusion that the scent is overwhelming. Sun is out and birds are singing. Guess where we are going again today? Have a great Friday.

The woods are beginning to come alive. Just a sheen of blue among the green foliage at the moment but by the end of the week it will be a sea of bluebells. Early this year, perhaps because of the unseasonal sunshine, warmth and lack of rain. These ancient woods are bliss.
