Several of us suspect Andrew may (it's not beyond the realm of possibility) have voted Leave or abstained in #EURef2016. And/or Tory in 2017/19. In this case, his FoM was not taken away from him by some rogue outside thief, he voted for it to be removed. He gave it up voluntarily. 2/2

Unite the Union is the largest and primary trade union at the Nissan car plant in Sunderland.
They definitely favoured Remain in #EURef2016.
Here is an article from the WSJ dated June 2016 a few weeks before the referendum.

Remembering how prominently "immigration" and FoM of people featured in the #EURef2016 campaigns and the reasons why people voted to Leave the EU, all this for that... Was it really worth it? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If ref on full EU membership there is, then is it too much to ask that it should be an honest debate - contrary to the previous #EURef2016?
This means being honest about tradeoffs,i.e. financial contributions to ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ budget, jurisdiction of a Court,โ‚ฌ and Schengen, all 4 Freedoms incl. FoM of people, etc.

They (those who vote for Refash') don't care about what their working age kids+grandkids think/may say.
See #EURef2016, #GE2019. See the fascist. murderous tangerine's 2024 election.
You'd be amazed at their capacity to vote against their own, and their own children's and grand-children's interest.

Latest lies, EU-blaming and Europhobia from AHโฌ‡๏ธ
Post #1 about possible Ruzzian interference in #EURef2016
Post #4: yes, there's a need. It's called "taking back control of our borders" - just as๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งargued it wanted to do by leaving ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ. Ever been to India or the US?Seen the queues at border control there?

True.
Imuic of the WP articleโฌ†๏ธ,restrictions on FoM from the 2004 enlargement new M/Ss were only permitted until 1st May 2011;they'd have to have been lifted by 2016,if they'd been put in place by๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
Hence I'm wondering what the actual impact on #EURef2016 would have been if๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งhad availed itself of them.

"There was๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บinterference"in what?
In #EURef2016? Probably nothing happens. This was tested in court, the Judge said the ref was just a full-scale opinion poll. It's politicians who decided of their own accord to make it binding.Ultimately,it's WM that authorised TM to send her A50 Letter to Pdt Tusk.1/2

I'm sure you do.
I'm on the EU side and I didn't vote for Remain.
You would love YOUR FoM back - w/o saying a word about the FoM of EU cits into ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง that was removed from them, w/o them having any say on the matter (apart from ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช, ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡น and ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ cits who were residents in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง at the time of #EURef2016). 1/2

The #EURef2016 vote was driven in significant part by racism and xenophobia - against EU cits and asylum seekers (at the time, trying to climb into the back of lorries in Calais) alike - hatred splashed all year long in the Daily Fakepress, Daily Heil and the likes ๐Ÿคฎ
www.ohchr.org/sites/defaul...

5 1 1 0

In part, yes.
But please bear in mind that #EuRef2016 was consultative only. If Cameron or May had wanted to say "Thank you very much People of the UK, for providing your opinion, we'll think about it, and do nothing", they could have - politically unsavoury, but legally possible. 1/2

2 0 1 0

Yes, like the EEA/EFTA M/Ss, incl. Norway ๐Ÿ™‚
There are still constraints, mind you (FoM, Acquis Communautaire, Court of Justice i.e. EFTA Court for the EEA/EFTA countries) - it's all a question of trade-offs, it's the debate that's never taken place, neither at the time of #EURef2016, nor ever since.

It's very regrettable that your "empathy" seems to be very one-sided and unidirectional๐Ÿคข
In all this thread, I never saw a word from you for the millions of innocent EU cits who were hurt by Brexit - w/o (except for the Irish, Cypriots & Maltese) having been given the chance of voting in #EURef2016.

Then maybe you can understand EU citizens who came to the UK lawfully, chose to make it their home, have been living in the UK some of us for decades, were not even given a vote in #EURef2016, had rights removed without having had a say - often with very difficult effects on their lives. 1/2

Your sentence #2 is what's still missing most imo
Many/most of most-pro-EU Britons see they've lost their FoM rights into๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ
What's missing (&was missing in #EURef2016 campaigns) is to articulate a vision why inbound FoM of EU cits(like me๐Ÿ™‚) benefited๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง.It can't be a reluctant acceptance of reciprocity

Their status is protected, regardless of how they voted in #EURef2016, thanks to Michel Barnier and the EU Commission team, not to UKGov who couldn't have cared less and were happy to throw them under the bus as collateral damage. 2/3

Well done to her.๐Ÿ™‚
I live in one of the most pro-Remain constituencies (76% in #EURef2016) and our MP resigned her post on the Shadow Cabinet to vote against JC's three-line whip to authorise May to trigger Art. 50. In line with the constituency's vote and in line with her own opinions. 4/n

So"the EU"now gets blamed for the outcome of #EURef2016 b/c "the EU should have been far more outspoken before the referendum",when actually Cameron prevented them (probably rightly so,but it was his decision) from interveningโฌ‡๏ธ
It's always s/b else's (esp.๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ's) fault.

Racism (and xenophobia, which is part of racism) in the UK has been on the rise, "especially" since #EURef2016, under the Tories as well as Labour.

2015โ€“2016 United Kingdom renegotiation of European Union membership - Wikipedia

After #EURef2016, there were comments along the lines of: "If only 'the EU' had made more concessions to Cameron on renegotiating ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง's membership of ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ, ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง wouldn't have voted to Leave".
This is version 2.0.

Agreed.
This โฌ‡๏ธ happened three months after #EURef2016

I'll blame all politicians (on both sides of the in/out debate before+after #EURef2016) for not engaging in explaining the choice to be made in terms of trade-offs:"We can have this (control over our borders, our money, etc), but we'll have to give up that (being a rule-maker,our opt-outs,trade,etc)."

So evem though I coudn;t vote in #EURef2016, it did affect my sense of identity too.

I'm just kindly and respectfully disputing the use of the word "plight". 6/6 /End

Please also don't forget that at the end of the day, #EURef2016 was nothing but a real-size opinion poll (said the judge).
People confirmed their vote in #GE2017 and in #GE2019.
By giving the blond, racist, lying, corrupt charlatan a stomping majority, they gave him a mandate to end their FoM.

But *on balance* you think that party X best represents your opinions and/or your interests.
Same goes for #EURef2016. Either people went to vote without seriously considering the implications of their vote,or chose to vote w/o properly informing themselves beforehand (which is also a decision). 2/n

I am the good reason of those who decided to throw it away by voting Leave in #EURef2016 and then to elect successive Brexit UKGovts.
They told me so,they asked me when I would be going back "home",since 2016/17 (never before) they harassed me and laughed at me b/c I have a bl*dy foreign accent. 1/3

Very clearly, ETIAS is the EU wanting to punish the UK for Brexit </sarc>

And of course...
Whilst Brexit is a decision by UK cits (+ Commonwealth), whether in #EURef2016 or in the successive GEs that elected Parliament that voted for it, EU cits had no say in Brexit, even those who were living in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

From a recent spat I had with Hesselden, I can confirm: yes, he is *that* stupid *and* disingenuous.
He came on my timeline to claim that it was wrong to say that many in #EURef2016 voted to end FoM. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฅ

By your own admission, ca. 5m voted in 2016 driven primarily by their desire to end inbound FoM of people.
That's "many" in my book.
There's nothing "wrong" with claiming that "many in #EURef2016 voted to end FoM"
You are a liar, Hesselden!
