The story to come is in large part about spurned love, with a quartet of lives at play. Tatiana, a country girl, falls for our titular misanthrope and makes the foolish decision to write him a letter, only to be coldly rejected. Meanwhile, her sensuous younger sister Olga and Olga’s fiancé, Lensky, are soon caught in the crosshairs of Eugene and Tatiana’s tension, with murderous results. Years later, Tatiana will have her comeuppance, a development that will vicariously satisfy any woman who has seen a man underestimate her worth.

Tatiana has her revenge or redress, not her comeuppance (which means punishment or just deserts).
