In Search of Aristotle Only a few months ago, if you had asked me what I knew about Aristotle, my answer would have been short and sweet: nothing. And even when I began my PhD study into ethical police decision-making, I…

at #EUROCRIM2025, PREVENT partners joined the session on high-risk criminal networks — exploring how to identify them systematically, how they infiltrate local economies, and which administrative measures can limit their influence.

Congratulations to all speakers!

Conclusion

Reasonably accurate forecasting is possible
A combination of forecasts from multiple methods is typically most accurate
Some specific methods (e.g. FASSTER) are wildly often inaccurate

Remember: Forecasts are only useful as long as there is structural stability

Today I spoke at #EuroCrim2025 about how to forecast the frequency of crime to support strategic decision making in policing.

Finished presenting at #eurocrim2025, with my partner in crime (research) Josh Bullock

We expand our 2024 findings on the relationship bw #TrueCrime media, fear of victimhood, anxiety, and distrust in the Criminal Justice System using an experimental design.

It’s been a pleasure to share our research on the consequences on employment for those with sexual offence convictions at
#Eurocrim2025

This has been another opportunity to talk about the employability network we are building, as well as our ongoing work with practitioners!

Proud to be at EUROCRIM 25 presenting our poster: “Can Autobiographical Memories of Events Perceived as Threatening Shape Fear of Crime?—Preliminary Results.” We examine phenomenology of threatening memories, gender differences, and links with fear of crime and avoidance.

I love the creativity that comes up at #eurocrim2025 during a power outage - everyone can follow the presentation on their phones.

Very nice #EuroCrim2025 presentation by @stijnruiter.bsky.social showing how burglars are much much more likely to offend on streets that they routinely travel on when moving between places they have some attachment to (eg home, friends’ houses, etc.)

A man pointing at a presentation slide that shows two charts. The left-hand chart shows that in 1995 a large proportion of homicide offenders in the US were adolescents, while in the 2021 homicide spike a much larger proportion of offenders were adults.

Very engaging presentation at #EuroCrim2025 by @clanfear.bsky.social showing how homicide offenders during the 2021 homicide spike in the 🇺🇸 were very different to the offenders who killed during the homicide peak of the 1990s, with lots of policy implications.

The 'bad boyfriend' meme with a man looking at a pretty woman passing by on the street, while his girlfriend looks on in disgust. The man is marked 'random guy at a conference', the pretty woman is marked 'making a comment' and the girlfriend is marked 'asking a question'.

A reminder to my colleagues attending #EuroCrim2025: **a question is a single sentence that ends with a question mark**.

When invited to ask a question in a session, that is not an invitation to give your own talk on an unrelated topic.

Just seen images of armed guards and patrolled barriers at #EuroCrim2025... seems US exceptionalism has come to European #criminology.

This is such a profoundly bad move by the #EuroCrim2025 organisers/Board.

Bad for #criminology in Europe. It undermines work that has been done under its auspices.

People should ask for a return of their conference/membership fees.

I hope @britsoccrim.bsky.social is paying attention.

Here we go #eurocrim2025. Holding the conference at a US institution in Athens with American security measures that you would expect at an embassy does not feel right especially considering the current human rights violations happening in the US.

I made decision to withdraw from #eurocrim2025 this year after asking myself 'How would the brave women who shared their experiences with me feel about sharing their stories in this forum?'

I'm in Athens for the next week and up for some of the below and chatting #resistance & #borders over coffee
