This Thursday, March 19 is #SunDevilGiving Day!
Please consider donating to @evmedasu.bsky.social at #ASU

Methods matter and the debate over the meaning and means of studying #PetosParadox are revisited, revisited, revisited, revisited, revisited, and revisited yet again. I'm here for it... #EvMed π§ͺ β

Well this is problematic for those of us studying aging ββ "Our study provides rare evidence of heritable longevity in a wild population and highlights how genetic conflicts between the sexes may constrain evolution and help maintain sex-specific genetic variance in fitness." #EvMed #DevoEvo π§ͺ
Something very cool is going on with cGAS-STING signaling in #ageing and #cancer #PetosParadox #EvMed

This is so cool! Four amino acid changes in the naked mole rat cGAS turn it from a DNA repair inhibitor into an enhancer

Agree, plus this research question is in constant debate; I still talk to OBGYNs talking about the OB dilemma and thereβs that #EvMed talk from a while back; seems like we need a good fight to get this over with :-)

I think the framing and shifting definitions are because the field of Comparative Oncology was niche, even within #EvMed, until the elephant p53 papers blew it up. Not saying ours played a role; we all just realized we now had the data and methods to start getting into it.

The chaos from Washington in the last week has made travel planning impossible for many scientists, so the International Society for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health meeting is allowing submission of talk abstracts until Feb 28. π§ͺ #EvMed @evmed.bsky.social @evmed.bsky.social evmed.org
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Nashville!
And to hearing some talks that look super.
