I read the novel Annihilation maybe 10 years ago, lost track, and didn't realize there were sequels. Friends, the source of all the funky mutations, is an alien prism that messes with Hox/HOM genes (presumably also plant developmental genes)! 🧪 #DevoEvo #EvoDevo

50 years ago, King & Wilson published a foundational paper that underlies the cis-regulatory paradigm (CRP) of #DevoEvo #EvoDevo, i.e., that *almost* all morphological evolution is driven by mutations in regulatory elements, rather than proteins, and it all arose from simple misunderstanding 🧪 🧵

#DevoEvo only applies to that weird branch of organisms with multicellular life stages, though.
