The City of #GreaterSudbury is considering what to do w the Elgin St arena once the new #EventsCentre is open. Right now, CGS has no intention of holding onto it. If the bldg doesn't sell, it will be demolished to make way for parking, at least temporarily.

Once the City of #GreaterSudbury secures $135M in debt to finance the #EventsCentre, the municipality will be carrying debt of $600M, abt $3,333 per person. That will be the highest in ON. We are paying back about $20M annually to service our debt. Thoughts?

The City of #GreaterSudbury has selected a site for the #EventsCentre. Mayor Paul Lefebvre told reporters site prep should begin later this year. The foundation will be poured in late 2026 and construction will begin in 2027. The venue is set to open in 2028.

Looking ahead into 2025, Mayor Paul Lefebvre hopes to see major progress on #CulturalHub and long-awaited #EventsCentre. He also hopes to see more progress on some of #GreaterSudbury's #housing projects, inc. Manitou and the Panoramic development at St. Joes.

City council got an update Tues on the #CulturalHub and #EventsCentre. Both projects are proceeding. Staff said CGS has recently bought Wacky's on Shaughnessy St for $2.49M. Its owner says expropriation will ultimately cost #GreaterSudbury taxpayers much more.
