Moody, green-gold painting of a young woman with long auburn hair standing in a dim medieval-looking chamber. She wears a pale off-the-shoulder gown and gathers her hands at her waist, while a heavy, richly embroidered cloak pools at her feet; light from a window casts a lattice of bright squares across the floor beside a bed and dark wood panelling.

“Her rich attire creeps rustling to her knees:
       Half-hidden, like a mermaid in sea-weed,
       Pensive awhile she dreams awake”

(John Keats)

Today is the Eve of St Agnes 💙

How better to celebrate than revisiting one of Harry Clarke’s strikingly blue watercolour studies that he made in preparation for his The Eve of St. Agnes Window (1924), inspired by John Keats’ poem.
