How long does it take to get last liquid drops from kitchen containers? These physicists know the answer At some point, most people have found themselves holding a tilted carton of milk or bottle of cooking oil, patiently waiting for the last drops to drip out. Now, physicists at Brown University have do...

Using Navier-Stokes equations and simple experiments, @brown.edu physicists explored thin liquid films in the kitchen. Milk drains in ~30s, olive oil in 9+ min. Thin film physics everywhere!

5/ From the cadence and this distance, we can calculate the speed and it comes out as 11.2 m/s.
This is a remarkable agreement between the two methods. Tbh, I am very surprised it worked out so well.

A Slight Curvature Gives Pebbles an Impacting Edge Pebbles that are slightly curved—rather than completely flat—exert the highest impact forces when dropped onto a watery surface.

This had #everydayphysics written all over it. What shape of pebble is best for skipping it across water? (and yes its experimental). #physics

Hear that? That’s the sound of an ultrasonic cold brew coffee ready in under three minutes UNSW Sydney engineers have utilised sound waves to cut the time it takes to make a cold brew coffee from many hours down to mere minutes.

Seems a tad cruel this turned up in my inbox when I just spent 40 minutes dismantling my #coffee grinder to unblock it. Mind you, I usually prefer my coffee hot. #acoustics #ultrasonic #physics #everydayphysics
