Finally got back into watching #Exceedraft. We knocked ou episodes 4-8 tonight and I'm really liking this show so far. The lead actor is incredible (and he's from Ultraman Tiga, holy shit!!). I am saddened the Red Spade plot is apparently done with because those were fantastic episodes.
#Exceedraft ep 49! Final! Things turned post-apocalyptic as the ozone layer disappears and people get manipulated by the Devil into attacking each other. The Devil challenges Hayato to a final combat but Hayato won’t ever give up! Jesus2 gets sacrificed to bring back the Commander, Ken and Kousaku
#Exceedraft ep 48! Exit the Guest Star I guess? Only to be emperiled as the Devil attacks the ozone layer. Kousaku and Ken get mind controlled by the devil while investigating his 80’s mansion. They try to kill Ai and in the ensuing fight HQ is seemingly blown up with them and the commander! Wild!
Of all the things #Exceedraft could reference, the Immaculate Conception was not even in my top 20. What a bizarre addition to a kids show to suddenly make the only female character pregnant against her will.
#Exceedraft ep 47! This is wild: Ai’s been Mary’d! She’s suddenly pregnant with the Child of God! Meanwhile, the commander from the previous shows show up to be a badass and protect her. Hayata reveals the Devil is their enemy and Armageddon is upon them. And it all ends in a cliffhanger!
#Exceedraft ep 46! A girl who’s been in coma all her life unleashes a brutal psychic vengeance on the people who murdered her journalist father. This one ends in tragedy and it just breaks your heart. “No matter how we’re born, doesn’t everybody has the right to love?!”
#Exceedraft ep 45! A sniper is on a rampage and he looks like Kosaku’s late father?! Meanwhile, his surrogate father figure might not be as clean as he thought. This ep was pretty harsh on the guy, having to face that one of the man he looked up to might be a criminal. But he handled it like a pro.
#Exceedraft ep 44! The team still needs to find the children kidnapped by the forces of God! The Devil sends black santas with sickle to battle Michael’s red santas. With Akiba’s help Exceedraft defeats the black santas and save the day but the Earth is still doomed… Toku! There’s nothing like it!
I love when David Akiba shows up in #Exceedraft! It feels like they’re having a crossover with a show that doesn’t exist. He’s just a guy in a leather jacket with magic brass knuckle, but he’s also an alien detective! It’s wacky and low budget but super charming.
#Exceedraft ep 43! A trio of Santa Clauses are kidnapping children for Mika the Angel for a new Ark project while the Devil plays Squash. Exceedraft is powerless before them until their alien friend shows up and beats them with sheer aura! Shit just got real AND weird! I friggin love it!
#Exceedraft ep 42! Meth dealers run a smear campaign in the media by setting up Kosaku and Ken to look bad. But the team trusts and believes in one another and through teamwork they foil the final part of their plan to get Exceedraft locked down. An interesting premise that would still be plausible!
#Exceedraft ep 41! Ken has a look-alike! Him and his two unemployed brothers exploit his ressemblance to get money and free meals… But arms dealer prey on their need for money and soon they find themselves running from Exceedraft AND the criminals! I like that the evil impostor plot was minimal.
#Exceedraft ep 40! A bullied kid becomes the only one privy to the location of a bomb but his own hang ups means he refuse to talk until bad guys catch up. Hayato is a really good child psychologist! “Kindness isn’t weakness. It is strength”. Lots of kids in Exceedraft but none of them annoying!
I’m down to ten episodes of #Exceedraft left! I can’t believe how quickly I’ve been sucked into this show and how regularly I watch it. I’m not normally a binge kind of guy. I’m also down to season 3 of Gilligan’s Island. What should I watch next??
#Exceedraft ep 39! Another nice one! A homeless former baseball player teaches a kid how to swing a bat, before getting in trouble with a band of jewelry thieves! Kousaku wants to save him and get him to that kid’s baseball tournament! The bad guys have a LASER CANON! Only 10 episodes to go!
#Exceedraft ep 38! Oh my god this was such a great episode! Smarmy arms dealer, two survivor of the WWII firebombing talking about their experience, their rage against real estate land sharks, an adopted grandson in peril, and an undetonated ordinance from WWII! One of the best! 😭
#Exceedraft ep 37! A mysterious biker in black, who appears immune to accidents, appears every Wednesday morning to drive recklessly. Exceedraft is charged with capturing this ‘Black Wednesday’, but they soon realize there’s a vengeance plot behind all this! Really clever ep with a bittersweet end.
#Exceedraft ep 36! A criminal organisation tries to brainwash Hayato into thinking he’s a spy and one of their own! But the camaraderie with Ken and Kosaku is powerful enough to beat the brainwashing! Cheesy but it’s always fun to see Exceedraft fight one another :p
#Exceedraft ep 35! The lesson of the episode: if you get bullied, fight back and punch their stupid face in. You don’t want the resentment to become an ‘invisible giant’ in your heart. Also, rich people are friggin jerks. Lovely! Fun error, still using the regular Redder armor for a part of the ep.
#Exceedraft ep 34! The sniper from last time made a deal with the devil for the life of his son! He has to destroy Exceedraft and this time employs bombs! Hayato keeps having visions of Mika, a little girl who is a ‘messenger for our Lord’?! The planet ends in 120 days… I guess this is the swerve!
#Exceedraft ep 33! A bounty hunter with an army of human shaped robots attacks Exceedraft to kill the entire team! Our heroes get bodied by the self destructing robots and need an upgrade! Redder becomes Sync Redder and gets a new canon! And Hayato dreams of an angel? 140 days before the apocalypse!
#Exceedraft ep 32! This was a cute episode. A stolen invincible vehicle is threatening Tokyo and its elerly inventor has pushed all memory of it out of his brain. Through shenanigans, Kousaku ends up the old man’s son for the day! They even have a family spat! But it all works out!
#Exceedraft ep 31! A scientist uses his time machine to solve the mystery of his son’s disappearance and KILL the criminal. Only Exceedraft has protection to endure the trip in time! A trip in time that’s basically just getting the CCTV tapes. It didn’t do much for the predictable plot sadly.
#Exceedraft ep 30! The team is charged with escorting an important witness, but he’s less than cooperative and the villains are devious! Some contrivance in this one to get stuff from A to B, and the usual basic action we see when the climax is just dudes with guns. Fine enough episode I’d say.
#Exceedraft ep 29! Turns out the Alien Cop is the big brother of the Evil Alien! They have Batman’s origin. This episode went by pretty fast, and had a good fight scene but a lot of it is just spent pretending to be electrocuted by the HQ computer as it spews ooze for some reason. But weak.
#Exceedraft ep 28! The Warrior of Light returns! The aliens are back to have their final confrontation! But the episode is mostly a clip show. The clip show itself being an insert song showcase over badass action scenes from the show. Next ep, things get serious!
#Exceedraft ep 27! Ken meets a girl and falls in love! She’s then killed and turned into a Cyborg and he has to face her in combat! This is a shorter repeat of the Saeko story but it’s still a super downer :( also his teammates were dick about him being in love, boo. Still had a cool fight!
#Exceedraft ep 26! This is just ‘Speed’ (1994) but in 1992! But the bomb is a chemical weapon! And here’s the kicker: the current drover is suicidal. And he wants to take his son with him. It’s super dark and they use the episode to sell you the new super patrol car Varias-7! Wild stuff.
