I’ve just noticed quite how wasted my left thigh muscle is now in that photo. Jeez.

Is it mad that my brain is telling me
I look fat in this photo?

Two people standing in front of the swimming lake. Wales, on the left, is wearing a blue dry robe and is smiling and handing the shiver squad badge over in one hand. The other hand is warmly shaking the hand of the idiot standing next to her. He’s just stepped out of the lake and is wearing black trunks, a black woolly hat, little black water shoe things and is wearing an orange tow float. He’s tall, his skin is flushed red from the water and he has tattoos and a stupid grin. Yes, that’s me.
I picked up my shiver squad badge at the lake this morning. 30 winter swims from the beginning of November. I absolutely love swimming in the winter and it’s a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful community.

5k time trial on the erg this evening at s/r 20. 40 seconds quicker than yesterday, tough but paced reasonably well. My hr touched 170 though, which tells me I’m not quite over this cold just yet.

A photo of a PM5 workout screen on a concept 2 rowing machine. It’s a 30 minute effort broken into 6 minute chunks. Overall, I’ve covered 7247m at a split of 2:04.1 and 26 strokes per minute and an average HR of 125. I’ve gone harder in the first 6 minutes, but otherwise very consistent. Target rate was 26-28, so maybe I need to aim for 28 next time. I think my limiting factor (as someone with multiple sclerosis) is not my cardiovascular fitness.
Done. I reckon my anaerobic threshold starts at about 136 bpm and I’ve really struggled to get there. Maybe I need to be braver and not worry so much about the volume to come.
