An amateur historian's perspective.
#ForceDesign #FD2030
"Objections have been advance that the service above outlined for the Marines would preclude them from possible participation with the Army in the strictly military land operations that follow the conquest of the sea; but, far from it, the service thus performed by these Marine brigades in defending the advanced bases for the Navy would make them the best seasoned troops under the flag; and their duty in the first phase of the campaign, - the strictly naval phase - completed, they would be ready to join an Army of invasion, welcome additions to such a fighting force, ready to profit by their varied experiences in the opening actions of the war."T - → Major Dion Williams, USMC. July 26, 1912.
Dion Williams made a cogent argument for Force Design 2030 in July of 1912.

Since the Philippines are in the news, our niche topic today concerns EABO, or Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations in the ongoing Great Power Competition™️.
It seems nothing “new” exists under the sun…

The fruits of #FD2030.

I designed my "Littoral Commander: Indo-Pacific" #wargame to help educate Marines on the future of warfare & #FD2030 at the tactical level. So it was a special honor to be able to discuss the game and its ongoing use in the Corps with General Eric Smith, 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps.
No doubt.
I immediately thought about the backlash to #FD2030.
Good point.
Just finding the whole continuum from ABF (1899) to FMF to “continuing operations ashore” to Maneuver Warfare and back to ABF (EABO) with #FD2030 to be an interesting progression.
