In those early years, when the Flood had already taken so much from us all, the people needed someone to believe in. Someone steady. The Exarch gave them that.

Lyna: To the people of the Crystarium, the Exarch became a pillar of strength. But as a symbol, he could not falter, or rather, he never allowed himself to be.

Valenice lets out a blood curdling scream, as the pain becomes overwhelming to her.

Valenice falls to the ground, passing out from the pain. Y'shtola runs over to her. Y'shtola: Val!

The Exarch is going to lay out our journey to Rak'tika and we need you to be present. Get a move-on!! Valenice lays in bed, remembering everything from her dream. Tired from being unable to sleep.

Valenice sits up and looks towards the exit.

Valenice: Yeah. I will be there shortly.

G'raha Tia?: How can you trust the Exarch when he clearly doesn't trust you enough to drop his guard?

G'raha Tia?: [leans in closer to Valenice's face, placing his hand on the side of her head] But it doesn't matter, does it? Just say it. Say you want him. That he's the one you're happy to see when he enters the room...just like I did, once upon a time.

Val: He's been kind to me ever since I've been here. That's all there is to it. I don't know why you would think otherwise.

G'raha Tia: Really? Because clearly your heart didn't skip a beat when he has made some sweet comments to you. Nor did you get goosebumps upon him touching your face tonight. Of course, there's nothing.

Exarch: [keeps his back to Valenice] I cannot stand by and watch this slaughter unfold. If there even a chance to make a difference, I must take it. Those in need deserve no less. Are you ready?

Lyna: Holminster Switch is requesting reinforcements. They say the sin eaters are attacking in force, and the village could be soon overrun.

[Alphinaud and Alisaie rush to leave the Ocular. Valenice, in shock, watches them make for the exit]

Exarch: Alert the guard. We should be prepared in case the fighting reaches the Crystarium. You have command of our forces in the field, Captain, but hold off on entering the town until I arrive. That goes for Alphinaud and Alisaie as well.

Exarch: [turns to Valenice] Pray, lend us your strength. Such a fight will provide you with a far greater insight than any explanation I could offer.

Exarch: Agreed. Thus we will need to occupy or otherwise divert his forces whilst we proceed with the business of eliminating the Wardens. Until we have done so, all other considerations must be set aside if we are to forestall the Eight Umbral Calamity.

Valenice: Are you sure that eliminating the Wardens will be enough?

Exarch: Your uncertainty is understandable, given the circumstances. Perhaps a more detailed explanation is in order. To begin at the beginning then -

Lyna: [off screen] Forgive the interruption, my lord- [the group turns to the exit of the Ocular]

Alphinaud: If I recall, you once mentioned identifying a potential weakness in the sin eaters?

Exarch: Aye. Sin eaters are drawn to serve the strongest of their kind - a class of creature we call "Lightwardens". And from what we have been able to ascertain, only a handful of these entities exist.

Exarch: Just as an ant colony will perish in the absence of its queen, we believe that the death of a Lightwarden will cause the lesser creatures within its sphere of influence to disperse.

Alphinaud: I have a feeling Eulmore might have something to say about any concerted action we take against these monsters. Vauthry's command over the sin eaters is integral to the Eulmoran society. In seeming to guarantee his people's safety, it guarantees their obedience. He will not take kindly to us depriving him of such useful allies.

[Scene changes to inside the ocular with Alphinaud, Alisaie, Valenice, and the Exarch] Exarch: And so you return. Have you gained a better understanding of the crisis now faced by the First?

Val: [places her hand on her hips] I do. These people have endured so much pain and horror since the Flood. I only hope we can find a way to help all.

With you here, Miss Davereaux, I'm confident we stand a real chance. Still, I imagine the thought eradicating all the sin eaters must feel a bit overwhelming right now.

Lyna: My lord, reports from Lakeland. The sin eater activity has increased significantly, but we're holding our ground.

Exarch: Good. We must remain vigilant. The light's reach is ever-growing, and we cannot afford complacency.

Lyna: Of course, my Lord. [pauses] Any news of Valenice? Was she successful in finding Alphinaud and Alisaie? It feels strange we have not heard from her in the past couple days.

Exarch: Miss Davereaux, if anything, is resourceful... I am confident she will find them soon. We can only hope she remains undeterred.
