(2/3) The society's first #flag incorporated the flag of the Kalmar Union, which united the #Nordic countries in the 15th century. The society's current flag, designed by Ole Bjerring in the 1980s, has the same basis but with the Nordic cross formed from the #FIAV knot.

Smith was a prime mover in setting up the Fédération Internationale des Associations Vexillologiques #FIAV and the North American Vexillological Association #NAVA, with the Flag Research Center becoming a charter member of FIAV and co-organising several of its congresses.

The second day of the 8th Czech National Congress of #Vexillology ended with a gala dinner at which CVS awards were handed out. These went to, among others, #FIAV president Željko Heimer who also gave a teleconference speech at the dinner.
