Chandra X-ray Observatory images of LP944-20, a brown dwarf star, showing a significant x-ray flare. The left image (Dec 15, 1999, 00:05-09:41 UT) shows no flare, while the right image (09:41-13:03 UT) reveals a bright spot indicating a powerful flare from this "failed star." The flare is believed to be caused by magnetic field activity.
