< Faith's post Faith Hunter 3d • 0 We went to the land today. One of the locals came by. He had been given an ancient scooter with a 2 cycle engine. It had come with missing parts and he had rebuilt the entire thing. Brace yourselves and try to envision this with me. It had slick tires, the seat was held together with strips of upholstery repair material and duct tape, the wires for brakes and speed controls were hanging loose, held in place with vice grip pliers, and the electric starter was ... missing. A rebuilt cordless drill ("rebuilt" is used with an admiring, though slightly confused smile) was hanging from the handle bars. The drill handle had been duct taped to a piece of angle iron so it could be lifted away easily. Because the drill could be (and was) used in place of the missing starter. He had fashioned the muffler out of an empty beer can. There was a tiny plastic duck glued on as a hood ornament. There was a hand built sleeve for his fishing rod and reel. A homemade sword was strapped into a wire harness/scabbard. A sword. On a scooter. ...
A sword. On a scooter. The sword was made of sharpened, engraved (with Celtic knots) flat steel, a guard of beaten pounded steel angle iron, and a grip composed of a torsion spring from the hood hinge of a truck threaded up the sword's steel butt end. Everything was welded together. It was -- magnificent is the best term I can think of -- in a Mad Max meets hill country ingenuity sort of way. He was geared up in work boots, heavy canvas pants, and a heavy duty coat with a thick leather belt over it. The belt looked as if it could have come from a repurposed mule plow harness. He was dipping as he rode, and stopped by to show off his creations. I HATE that I didn't have my cell on me to take a pic. Next time. Please dear Lord, next time, I'll have my phone.
Mari Hersh-Tudor That is a sword I would carry into battle and emerge victorious, covered in the blood and disbelieving exclamations of my enemies, aghast at being bested not by the One Chosen by a Legendary Lost Blade Of The Fae, but by Some Farm Chick with a sword named Fred. 3d Like Reply 10 Helen Wawrejko That. A highly entertaining post by the author #FaithHunter ( #JaneYellowrock, Soulwood, Junkyard Cats et al), and my response
I now require a photo of garage-built Fred to hang over my desk.
