Her eyes lowered back to the Mayor that nestled in her lap, her lips parting to speak when all she could manage was a hum. John hesitated, fidgeted ever so anxiously with the teeth of the zipper on her jumpsuit. He hadn’t wanted to say it aloud, those repressed fears, the memories. The face of the man whose death had stuck with him, through bad trips, through his own Ghoulification. “Promise me I won’t lose you.” Rose wasn’t sure how to answer, if the honest thing to say would sit well on her lover’s conscience. She couldn’t quite promise, not in the world they were placed in, not when the outlook of Curie’s research was so uncertain… When risks were taken at the expense of seeing what they made come to fruition, regardless if it were right. Her bottom lip caught between her teeth for a moment, the darkness of the small apartment’s bedroom lit only by the far moonlight. Casting shadows along the crib that pushed against the bay window, her words coming out dry and nearly choked from the poor excuse for a meal she’d had. “You won’t lose me, I’m right here,” she whispered, her eyes focused in the direction of him. Where her hands cradled along the back of his head, fingers carefully caught in his hair.
