My daughter and I were up and out of the house early, for an appointment that didn’t happen due to a mix-up. While this could have been annoying, it was actually good having something that made us get out of the house early on a Saturday. I’ve got a lot done today #FamiliarFebruary #Day28
This evening we had teenage guests. I quite enjoyed pottering, cooking and chipping in to the conversation, without being a main person - if that make sense #FamiliarFebruary #Day27
This evening we went to see Hamilton, which was amazing (I’ve not seen it before). We were in the front row, which were cheap seats compared to the row behind, but an amazing close up view apart from a few bits further to the back of the stage #FamiliarFebruary #Day26
A scene photographed from a central section of of a busy road in London. Taken of the Victoria Palace Theatre, a grand out building. Hamilton is written above the entrance. There is a clock to the side of it. A red single decker bus, and people (faces blacked out) in the foreground. In the background, behind the theatre, are modern buildings.
I was out in London this evening (lovely!) and took this photo to send to my family (due to upcoming plans!). My daughter was admiring it, and we think it would make a nice jigsaw puzzle (she was diligent in the blacking out of faces! #FamiliarFebruary #Day25
Today I was at work all day (second of all five on campus this week), and had a day with such variety of interesting conversation, with colleagues and with students and researchers. There was a real buzz in the library, and around campus. #FamiliarFebruary #Day24
Today I had a discussion about whether our databases would exist in a few years, or would they all be replaced with AI subscriptions… this got me thinking that I want to have a better understanding of the research & be able to defend the long term value of library databases #FamiliarFebruary #Day23
Today (yesterday officially now) was an at home day. Probably didn’t get as much at home stuff done as I should have, due to the stress and pull of the ridiculously busy work (and outside of work) week ahead. I did go for a run and to Tesco though. And we had a nice evening. #FamiliarFebruary #Day22
Today I was hoping I’d be able to say that I fixed the washing machine (again). I managed to get the filter unscrewed & out from underneath and clear what was stuck in it. But it being on its side may have messed with the electrics. And it’s now struggling to drain and spin #FamiliarFebruary #Day21
Today my daughter has learnt pi to 52 digits. This evening she got me to listen to her several times, checking, and talked me through how she remembers each bit. It is impresssive! #FamiliarFebruary #Day20
Agh! Typo #FamiliarFebruary #Day19
Today was a full on day at work, including teaching 3-5. I came home feeling desperate to do more work-because there’s so much, & because it’s stuff I want to do. But didn’t, had a glass of wine & read instead. Then realised I was exhausted! #FamiliarFebruary #Day18 My lovely daughter made porridge
Today #Day17 is a 2nd day in a row about work. I’m doing so many things at the moment that the days are flying by and it’s hard to stop. I am though, and have been busy with cooking etc most of the evening. #FamiliarFebruary
Today I think I made a breakthrough in learning to use BQL (Bloomberg Query Language) to get the kind of data the students I work with actually want, with helpline support. Early days, lots more to learn & an opportunity next week. Look forward to being properly confident #FamiliarFebruary #Day16
Today my new headphones were delivered. It is so nice to have headphones where both ears work (and one isn’t stuck up with sellotape), and that stay on my head tightly, and that fold up #FamiliarFebruary #Day15
Today I started reading, and getting into, yet another book, despite already being in the middle of several. I needed a paperback to read in the bath - since our shower rail is broken (really hope it’s possible for someone to put up a new one in a couple of days…) #FamiliarFebruary #Day14
Today I did a lot of work on the slides for teaching that I already did on Wednesday. Good to have for next time (as well as for sharing). Though I know when it comes to next time there are loads more things I want to add… #FamiliarFebruary #Day13
This evening I’ve done some Friday cleaning on a Thursday (everyone else was out), hopefully leaving a bit of leeway for tomorrow. #FamiliarFebruary #Day12
Today I was teaching a new class, on a topic I’ve developed experience in over the past few years. It was good to share some of this. There are areas that need lots of work for next time, but I think it will be a really useful session once I’ve had multiple panic preparings! #FamiliarFebruary #Day11
Today I managed to do lots of things at work, meet my son halfway through my journey, so we could head into London, and meet more family for dinner. An early dinner was actually really good, as it’s allowed time to do do things at home afterwards (umm… slides. Ahem) #FamiliarFebruary #Day10
This evening I’ve been out for dinner with a friend. So nice to talk about all the things, and also to think about all the things there wasn’t time to talk about #FamiliarFebruary #Day9
I didn’t get a chance to post my #FamiliarFebruary #Day8 daily reflective post last night. Just when I might usually be sitting down and thinking, the 2nd minor catastrophe of the evening occurred. Meaning I didn’t get to bed till 3am! (Mostly sorted now).
Tonight was a nice evening with all four of us at home. Sometimes doing our own thing, sometimes together - playing two games of Catan, and listening to music. There was even some dancing! #FamiliarFebruary #Day7
I was sitting with a blank thinking what to write, when my daughter (who couldn’t see what was on my screen) asked ‘What’s your BlueSky post going to be?’
It’s been a nice day, but without anything noteworthy that isn’t the usual teaching prep & tv. So this is a perfect #FamiliarFebruary #Day6
I was writing today, in a meeting where all involved were on campus, & we were accountable to each other. I kept adding new aspects to my list, thinking of them while writing, so I still have lots to write before I can edit myself, let alone have my colleagues edit. Felt good #FamiliarFebruary #Day5
We’ve had a nice evening. I made a nice (very regular meal) and we watched several episodes of Frasier - nice that we’ve still got 3 or 4 series to go (I don’t really remember anything particularly from watching it 20 years ago) #FamiliarFebruary #Day4
Today I had a useful and enjoyable conversation with a friend #FamiliarFebruary #Day3
Today I taught a class that used to be an hour, and has always not had nearly enough time. Today was the first time running it for two hours, and I’m so glad I did - time for activity and discussion, and actually getting through the content, feels wonderful #FamiliarFebruary #Day2
Today I’ve watched various tv episodes for the 2nd time, with my daughter watching for the 1st time (& my husband for This Is Us). The 1st episode of Dawson’s Creek was definitely of its time… Lessons in Chemistry I loved, but will be continuing by myself. Ted Lasso is great. #FamiliarFebruary #Day1
