In 2020, I attempted to copy one of the Fayoum portraits using casein tempera. The Fayoum portraits are part of an ancient portrait tradition that informed the practice of Byzantine iconography. The originals were done in encaustic but I have no experience with that. #fayoum #art #traditionalart
