Starting #ThisDayInHistory in 1945, extensive UK/US #FirebombingOfDresden commenced. 796 British #Lancaster & 527 American #B17FlyingFortress bombers dropped 3,900 tons of explosives & incendiaries, destroying 75,000 homes, levelling 6.5 km2 of the city, and killing up to 50,000.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 2005, the #Frauenkirche in #Dresden was reconsecrated following a 13-year reconstruction process using as much original material as possible. The baroque church, completed in 1743, was destroyed in a 1945 Allied #WarCrime, the #FirebombingOfDresden.
