A line of magpies on a fence checking out our little band of walkers as we strode along Blind Creek track this morning. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
A red wattlebird perched on the rusty red bannister of the back stairs. A lillypilly tree in the background.
A tie between the red wattlebird and the currawong. Wattlebird was poking around the salvia at the bottom of the back steps and the currawong was warily hopping up the steps for a few meaty scraps I’d tossed out. - here’s the wattlebird, closest I could get. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
The only sky fades from blue black to blue. A blackbird close by alarms short and very loud and silence returns. #FirstBirdifMyDay
Snowdrops begining here. The blackbird singing before dawn, once again. Later a little regret flushed from the abandoned mill goit up into the trees. #FirstBirdifMyDay
Fried egg, mushrooms, black pudding and a hash brown.
A carrion crow sits on a bin
#breakfast and the #FirstBirdIfMyDay is a carrion crow taking a cheeky look in the car park rubbish bin.
I was woken by a wood pigeon cooing unsteadily before 5am this morning. Considering it’s not light til nearly 8, he was obviously just getting back from the office Christmas party - probably led astray by a bunch of turtle doves and that bloody partridge I’ve heard so much about. #FirstBirdIfMyDay
My skies are empty, the swifts have left, abruptly, no stragglers this year and I am standing bereft, just a collared dove & a magpie to lift the morning. #FirstBirdIfMyDay
#FirstBirdIfMyDay calling lesser black backed gulls flying at sunrise from their city centre river roost over my area at 5am to the reservoirs at the south east of the city. Same yesterday but a bit later with a large orange sun as the backdrop looking like a scene from lion king
First bird I could hear was the little wren in the churchyard "giving it laldy" (Scottish term meaning giving all you've got) in the morning sunshine. The first bird I actually saw was a scattering of elder ducks, bobbing about in the distance on the basin...
#firstbirdifmyday
Graveyard robber, I mean robbin, darting between the stones on the hunt for breakfast...
#firstbirdifmyday
A pigeon pecking away on the grass in the back garden. Seen through the bedroom window. It had quite a time there.

😊
A blue tit announcing the morning headline like an old newspaper seller, "evening standard, get your evening standard"
(Yes I know it's morning)
#firstbirdifmyday
Heard a magpie warbling then sighted it as I opened the front door and stepped outside. All felt right in my little world. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
Still hot, no sightings till later as the sun lowered then a mixed flock of little brown birds were all over the garden, 2 magpies enjoying the water bowls, pairs of rosellas flashing thru the trees, cicadas buzzing and a dragonfly hovering in the dusky sky. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
I heard the currawongs call early this morning then one flew overhead, white tail feathers fanned out and a glimpse of yellow eye as it passed. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
First bird of my day: a kookaburra taking off from the middle of the dirt road and heading straight for my windscreen. It veered up and over the roof much to my relief. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
Hot blustery north wind and fire bans. 1 parched magpie sipping from the nearly empty birdbath. I sneaked down and turned the sprinkler on low. Maggie had a proper bath then hopped on the sprinkler chair to enjoy the shower. #FirstBirdIfMyDay
Two speedy young rosellas shooting diagonally across the back gardens in tandem, like fighter pilots dipping and weaving through the trees. Acrobatics on the wing and on a mission I suspect. #FirstBirdIfMyDay
I went to our local nature reserve this morning to walk off the excesses from yesterday. These are the first birds I saw:
One magpie lark
Two pink galahs
And a noisy miner in a gum tree 🍃🎶
All this is true. Happy Christmas #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
A pair of chattering Northern Cardinals under my window before dawn here are the #FirstBirdIfMyDay. #birds
Lady magpie swooshing past me to land in the cut grass and rustle up some breakfast. #FirstBirdIfMyDay #WhatsYours
Magpie perched on the end of a branch bouncing up and down like a seesaw in the wind.
