Still think the #FirstAmendment protects you? On #ThisDayInHistory in 1919, during the #FirstRedScare, #Arkansas joined the 40 states (& two territories) that banned #anarchism and #communism as political philosophies, barring publications, organizing, and even the use of flags.

Several unions joined a shipyard #strike in the 1919 #SeattleGeneralStrike on #ThisDayInHistory. For five days the city shut down. Alas, its main consequence was feeding into the #FirstRedScare.

Of the 120 people indicted for the the riot, most were never prosecuted, and none served jail time. This event was part of a pattern of race riots and white-supremacist motived violence called the #RedSummer of 1919, which was itself an outgrowth of the virulently anti-communist #FirstRedScare.
