EXT. WILLIAMS' DRIVEWAY - FRIDAY MID-MORNING MARSHALL WILLIAMS, 5, Black, rolls up to the side door of a MINIVAN in his WHEELCHAIR. His mother, JENNIFER WILLIAMS, 35, follows soon after, shoving items into her tote bag JENNIFER Ok, Marshall, cellphone, housekeys,… MARSHALL Snacks? JENNIFER Yes, Marshall, I have snacks for later. For me, what are you gonna eat? MARSHALL Mom! As Jennifer laughs, she gets the car door open for Marshall. TYRELL WILLIAMS hustles over from locking the front door. TYRELL We all good? We are out for an adventure today! Marshall grimaces. MARSHALL I wish this was an adventure but this is the doctor. Doctors are not an adventure. JENNIFER But this is the big day! You're getting fitted for your new mobility aids! Marshall is unimpressed as she picks him up and places him into a seat. Tyrell folds up the wheelchair and tucks it into the back. TYRELL New gear isn't an adventure? You're too young to be so cynical. MARSHALL No I'm not, I'm 5. That's almost 10! What's cynical?

INT TENT - DAY Jess wakes to find Dorian already gone. She rises slowly and exits the tent. A few minutes of searching finds him at the wash barrel, his shirt off and his bare chest drenched and soapy. She walks up behind him, removing her shirt. JESS How is it? Dorian answers without turning. DORIAN The water? Bracing. That's a nice way of saying it. He finishes soaping up and takes a pan full of water from the barrel and dumps it over his head, rinsing the soap off. That's when Jess notices his back is covered in scars. She reaches out to follow one with her finger. He stiffens. JESS Sorry. I should've asked first. DORIAN No, you're fine. I just wasn't expecting -- He turns and finally sees that she's shirtless. He turns back quickly, blushing. DORIAN I definitely wasn't expecting that. Jess chuckles as she steps up to the barrel, takes the pan, and douses herself with water. She squeals in shock. JESS Goddess! You said it was 'bracing', not 'a degree north of frozen'! Dorian laughs, but keeps his eyes averted. DORIAN I said that was the nice way of saying it. Jess begins soaping up just in an effort to keep warm. JESS I suppose that's what I get for sneaking bare breasts on you. But your reaction was adorable. Have you never seen women's breasts before?
DORIAN Yes, of course. Yet despite my aversion to being called 'Lord', I do like to stick to some societal norms, like 'modesty' and 'discretion'. JESS I've found them to be a hindrance in certain situations, though. A war camp, for instance. If I had to cover up every time a man was around in a camp like this, I'd have been encrusted with dirt and grime for months on end. Apologies for your modesty, Dorian, but I much prefer to be clean. Dorian makes a 'good point' face and finally turns. DORIAN That's fair. Also, I suppose a woman's chest anatomy isn't that different from a man's. You simply have milk glands in addition to the muscle, which is all underneath skin, anyway, and there's no rule against a man baring his chest to the world. JESS Exactly. She fills the pan with water again and braces for impact. A second later, the soap is gone, and she sputters under the cold water. JESS Oh I really prefer waking up to hot coffee than this. She towels off quickly, trying to rub some heat back into her skin. She looks at the scars criss-crossing Dorian's chest as she does. JESS I feel like I owe you an apology. DORIAN For? JESS For the comment I made last night about you not knowing what it's like to struggle, or hurt. I can see that I assumed too much.
Dorian nods as he puts on the new shirt from Sylas. DORIAN That's part of why I hate when people use my title. It comes with certain assumptions about me. Assumptions that may be true about some nobles, but ring hollow for me. JESS May I ask how...? She points to his scarred chest. Dorian nods. DORIAN Well, I won't catalogue each one for you, because we'd be here all day, but suffice it to say you're not the only one who's fought with the Resistance. Jess nods. JESS Well, I am sorry, for what it's worth. I assumed things about you that clearly aren't true. And I won't use your title again, Lord Black. She grins mischievously as she dons her new shirt. JESS Well, maybe once, Lord Black. Or twice, Lord Black. I promise that was the last time. (beat) Lord Black. Dorian laughs. DORIAN I just wish you to know that in our day and a half of traveling together, I've grown...rather annoyed by you. JESS (smiles) And I shall continue to annoy you. Dorian grins. DORIAN I look forward to it.

A man with a bloodied face and phone to his ear. DON'T BLINK overlay in white. OVER BLACK RAGGED BREATHING. Not around us. Inside us. Rattling our skull. IN OUSE DAY Bloodied, mangled BODIES and decapitated heads with eyes squeezed shut litter a splintered plank floor. SUPER: 1892 Half-hidden beneath the dead -- A OUIJA BOARD. BLINK and you miss it. gainst the wall, a FRAIL MAN drenched in blood. His uivering chin rests on the barrel of a shotgun His bloodshot eyes, drowning in terror, flicker with each stuttering breath. They get smaller...smaller. EXT. ONE-ROOM HOUSE - DAY BANG! The shotgun blast echoes across the barren landscape. The sun sets. Rises. Sets again -- in fast succession, as blood oozes from the walls within. INT. ONE-ROOM HOUSE - DAY The CLANK of spurred boots as they scuff through the crimson wasteland, until one step snags -- a spur lodged deep in a bodiless arm. • good shake of the boot and the bloody limb flumps off, anding on blood splatter that forms a symbol. the boots belong to SHERIFF BILL (50), cowboy hat, chaps, and i stoic, weathered face with a smoldering cigar clenched between his teeth.
