Small Roach were much the most abundant fish in the Cut-Off Channel west of the bridge at Wretton, then Bitterling & Bleak.
There was an awful lot of diseased roach & bleak. The one with the bad head was hiding on its own under the roots by the bank.

It was however, sad to see so many diseased or damaged fish in the Cut-Off Channel at Wretton. I observed Roach, Rudd, Bleak and Bitterlings all suffering from one thing or another.

5/9 The suspect? Viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS), which Jennifer Powell, a University of Toronto PhD candidate, describes as "a really nasty fish disease" capable of wiping out huge numbers of fish.

Haven't seen anywhere else the diseases suffered by the fish in Lee Brook at its confluence with River Lark; especially Roach and Minnow fry were affected. Also saw Chub, Rudd & Gudgeon fry in the mixed shoals.

High density of Roach in the River Lark at Mildenhall (max fish in one pic is 11) where people feed the waterfowl - but many diseased fish (several pike are also damaged). Fin rot?
