A flamboyant cuttlefish egg looks like a small, translucent bubble—about the size of a pea or marble. The egg is almost perfectly round and jelly-like, with a glossy surface that reflects light faintly underwater. Inside this clear sphere, you can often see the developing baby cuttlefish curled up. Even at this early stage, it’s possible to make out its tiny tentacles and bulbous head. In the image, the egg glows softly, revealing the miniature cuttlefish within—its skin dotted with specks and a golden shimmer from its developing chromatophores (color-changing cells).
