Malmesbury History: 10
It is recorded that in 989, Eilmer, a monk of Malmesbury, witnessed Halley's comet. He would live long enough to see it again in 1066.
In between, in about 1010, he performed his more famous feat of flying from Malmesbury Abbey tower for about a furlong.
