I can't move on from this...
Made the mistake of reading the entire editorial & there's no need to. The headline is pretty spot-on. But I'd like to add:
- There is no mention of the #UnitedArabEmirates when talking about #Sudan.
- There is NOTHING about #Congo. Can you all guess why is that?!

Screenshot of a tweet from user @learntoliberate: "Hello everyone, As you might be aware, iPhone16 is being released in September 2024. The same iPhone16, like every other BloodTech products that use the cobalt mined from Democratic Republic of Congo through exploitation and child labour. The genocide of Congolese people for economic gain has been going on for 30 years now and has cost over 10 million lives. One of the ways the Congolese people are asking us to show solidarity with them is by boycotting tech products - i.e., by not consuming unnecessary tech products just for the sake of a new trend (which is exactly what iPhone products depend on) and buy refurbished items instead and only when they are extremely necessary. Now that the new release is set to happen any day, please be loud about #BoycottiPhone16 and #FocusOnCongo."
Screenshot of a tweet from user @learntoliberate: "Apart from Apple products, cobalt is also used in batteries for other technologies like electric cars, vapes, etc. We need to boycott them all in solidarity with Congo." The tweet presents the banner attached to this post.
"FREE CONGO #BOYCOTTIPHONE16 1. Genocost A genocide for economic gain (Genocost) is being perpetuated on Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for over 30 years now. The resulting exploitation and violence has killed over 10 million Congolese. #FocusOnCongo is the hashtag used to bring awareness about this genocide." Hand print in the color red beside the first topic, on the right. Below, on the left drawing of a smartphone with the phrase "killing kids since..." on the screen. Right beside it: "2. Cobalt A lot of our technologies are dependent on cobalt for batteries and most of these technologies come from companies which are unethically mining cobalt from DRC under massive exploitation and terrorism. Democratic Republic of Congo produces up to 70% of the world's Cobalt and yet the Congolese people have only received pain and torture in return. Hence the term #BloodTech" Alt text continues below.
