It's also a nice spin on the fundamental folk horror trope of the sceptical normative outsider arriving in a close knit, isolationist province where they hold a different, rival set of beliefs and values. 2/2

It's a great misdirect, beginning Rina's story in a 1960s commune, only for her to end up in a place where she's nostalgic for the relative normality of a cult compared to the weird, occult menace of Sorrow Spring. 1/2

'Minuke' by Nigel Kneale delivers spine-chilling suspense as a poltergeist wreaks havoc in a new build family house. Kneale's mastery of the eerie makes this ghost story a must-read! #FolkhorrorFeb #Minuke #NigelKneale #GhostStory

It's the final week of #FolkhorrorFeb and this story looks very promising. The writer created the Quatermass series and The Stone Tape. This is going to be good!

'He took his hands slowly from his eyes and asked:
"Did you see it, too?"
I nodded. "It's over now. Forget it."
We never would, of course, not entirely...'

Just finished Mary Williams' "The Dark Land". Obsession weaves through the narrative in a haunting exploration of the eerie power the environment can wield over the human psyche. #folkhorror #FolkhorrorFeb #readmorebooks #booklover #books (Image: Bing AI)

I'm starting this tonight. Although I have not heard of the author before, she appears to have been a prolific writer with over 200 published ghost stories. Quite mpressive.

Just finished 'The Tarn of Sacrifice' by Algernon Blackwood – a mesmerising blend of mystery, reincarnation and supernatural elements. Blackwood's vivid storytelling kept me on the edge of my seat. #FolkhorrorFeb #BookReview #AlgernonBlackwood #folkhorror #booklover #reading

- In "The Tarn of Sacrifice", time seems to pass in a cyclic fashion near standing stones, collapsing past and present.
- The short story juxtaposes the violence of WWI ("sacrifice" of young soldiers) with the violence of ritual sacrifice.

"In the waste the great Stone stood upright, solitary, forbidding, as it had stood for thousands of years. It dominated the landscape somewhat ominously." From The Tarn of Sacrifice by Algernon Blackwood

The Spirit of Stonehenge by Jasper John (AKA Rosalie Muspratt) is a story incorporating folk horror, paganism and the dangers of obsession. It shows a horrific kind of human sacrifice; handing over of yourself blindly to ideas in the hope that they might save you
