Hmm. #footiMac appears to have gone on a full protest. Completely unresponsive. It's going to have to stay dark until Saturday before I can get back and figure it out.

Updated to v4.5.8!
And done a few things to try to tame #footiMac so she doesn't get grumpy and go all unresponsive again!

A graph showing metrics of how long it took worker processes to process traffic. It is 24hrs. Before around noon there was normal, light activity. Around noon there was a period with no activity while the server was done, then a large spike and more activity than normal for a couple hours before settling down again.
Just looking at the sidekiq stats to see how things cleared out. All in all, Not bad for a 2008 iMac.

success! Upgraded #footiMac to Debian 13/Trixie and brought Mastodon along for the ride.
Had a few hiccups...
1) I upgraded elasticsearch and ended up having to clear out its cache files as it didn't want to 'upgrade' them itself.

verdict: I should have got this router 2 years ago.... as the apple nerds (me) say: the DNS loopback/hairpin "just worked"!
so much fun to be had with this little beasty! tons of config options.

A picture of the network router decided it's box. Both are white. The router is quite small maybe 6 inches wide and 4 inches deep.
A picture inside of the wiring closet shows a number of shelves all trailing various bits of ethernet cable. On the second top shelf is a 24% switch that is full and I'm very top is the telus router.
alrighty folks! time to install the new network box!
Will see if I can fully replace the Telus router (white roundish tower thing on the top shelf) with the asus router.
there will definitely be interruptions in internet to this mstdn account, as well […]

My new router is arriving today.
Anxious for it to arrive so I can take DNS off #footiMac or at least not need to hack local devices to be able to use @chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca reliably at home.

Just bought one of these small Asus Ethernet routers to stand in for our Telus router (which will either will disappear, or go into Bridge mode). This should solve my NAT problems permanently.
