William C. Dietz, Author of The ‘Dark Forces’ Trilogy, Has Passed Away William C. Dietz, the author who wrote the _Dark Forces_ novella trilogy, has passed away at 80 years old. Dietz was an acclaimed writer of books and videogames, having gotten his start in the ’90s by writing tie-in novels for the _Star Wars:_ _Dark Forces_ videogame. He wrote a trilogy of Expanded Universe (EU) novels adapting _Dark Forces_ and _Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II_ videogames, called _Dark Forces: Soldier of the Empire_ , _Dark Forces: Rebel Agent_ and _Dark Forces: Jedi Knight_ , all starring Imperial-turned-Jedi Kyle Katarn. The three books were released across 1997 and 1998, in the relatively early days of the EU, and were a huge factor in Kyle Katarn’s popularity among _Star Wars_ fans. Dietz also wrote the novelization for _Halo: Combat Evolved_ , which is similarly treasured by _Halo_ fans, as well as multiple scripts for videogames over the course of his career. William C.
