Here's an Adder that was sheltering in the bracken from yesterday's cold, blustery weather. It was a wind screened viper.

We're giving #FoulshawMoss a bit of TLC! ๐ค
Now that #FoulshawOsprey season is over, we're upgrading some of our boardwalks to make them safer and more long-lasting! ๐จ
You're still welcome to explore this fantastic landscape while this work is ongoing. ๐ถ
What a magical place. For nearly 10,000 years this bog has been growing, soaking up carbon from the atmosphere and providing a home for a wonderful world of wildlife.
Thank you to everyone who takes an interest and helps to support it. It means a lot.

๐ขSay hello to the newly ringed Blue 9K4 โ the first EVER chick from our second nest at #FoulshawMoss! ๐๐
This big baby marks over 200 osprey chicks ringed in Cumbria since 2001 and we're really pleased that there is now another nest in the #FoulshawOspreys story! ๐

Did you know that hobbies have been seen at our #FoulshawMoss reserve? ๐ฏ
With a body size smaller than that of a kestrel, it's easy to see why these tiny raptors can be mistaken for the peregrine falcon's smaller sibling!
Have you ever caught a glimpse of a hobby? ๐ค

Adders spotted basking at Foulshaw Moss today! A great sign that this precious peatland is healthy and teeming with life. Keep your eyes peeled and tread carefully โ they're shy and protected. ๐โ๏ธ @cumbriawildlife #Adders #FoulshawMoss #PeatlandWildlife
White-faced Darter on the wing today at Foulshaw Moss! One of the UK's rarest dragonflies, this fiery little beauty is thriving thanks to years of careful peatland restoration by @cumbriawildlife. #WhiteFacedDarter #FoulshawMoss
This image is of a Tree Bumblebee on the remains of a Pussy Willow flower head. It is hovering amongst the male Pussy Willow catkin as it gathers pollen but its head is already covered in pollen. Taken at Foulshaw Moss nature reserve in the south Lake District in April 2025.
For #InsectThursday I love the look of this Tree Bumblebee at @cumbriawildlife.bsky.social's #FoulshawMoss reserve.

Textile dragonfly made out of small hand made blue buttons sitting on a green leaf
Dorset button dragonfly from Nature's Buttons The Insects Issue written by me in 2023. We had a great mooch around Foulshaw Moss Nature reserve today, looking at osprey, flowers, fungi, and dragonflies, who were too fast to photograph. Lucky I have this one!

This is a head on image of an Osprey flying in to the artificial nest platform, carrying a well shredded fish in its right foot. The bird is above and just outside the perimeter of the nest and its wings are up, spread out and arched showing their brown, grey and white dappling on the underside. Its black and white head and swept out tail are also visible. The nest and nest platform are mounted on a tall, cut back red barked tree, behind the remains of what seems to be a dead tree. There's a white post on the nesting platform which seems to be for a monitoring camera. Taken in Foulshaw Moss nature reserve in April 2025.

For #FlyDay, one of #CumbriaWildlifeTrust's #FoulshawMoss Osprey's flying to the nest platform with a well shredded fish. It landed but only momentarily before flying off again.

This is a side view of an Osprey perched on the top of the tall, bare remains of a dead tree. The Osprey is eating what seems to be a Salmon. The Ospreyโs white head, breast, underside and legs are very visible, contrasting sharply with its short, sharp, hooked black bill and the broad black/brown stripe running from behind its eye to join its black/brown back and wings. Taken at Foulshaw Moss in the south Lake District in April 2025.
A very quick edit after watching this #Osprey at @cumbriawildlife.bsky.socialโs excellent #FoulshawMoss for about an hour late this afternoon.

Watching the delightful #osprey cam at #FoulshawMoss
Helped by the sun being out, and a very special (to me) hill in the background.
