To me this looks like a primordial creature, emerging from the marine environment into a new coastal one - a world apart, yet "soon" to be its new home. The "boundary" in this case is made of bronze-colored fractal field patterns that seem to separate the lower-right portion of the image from the top-left one. While the term "culture shock" seems negative to most, it can be a positive, beautiful thing to immerse yourself into a different culture.
