Frankfurt Airport traffic rises 1.8% in May; Fraport Group up 6% globally
Investing.com -- Frankfurt Airport handled 5.6 million passengers in May 2025, up 1.8% from a year earlier, as Fraport (ETR:FRAG) Group airports worldwide reported overall traffic growth.
Fraport AG on Friday said that cargo volumes at Frankfurt, including airfreight and airmail, rose 4.4% year-over-year to 178,977 metric tons.
Aircraft movements increased by 5.7% to 42,255 takeoffs and landings. The total maximum takeoff weight for the month was around 2.6 million metric tons, also up 4.4% from May 2024.
Passenger traffic across all airports managed by the Fraport Group grew by 6% year-over-year to approximately 16.8 million travelers in May.
Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia served 151,849 passengers, an increase of 13.5% compared to May 2024.
In Brazil, the combined total at Fortaleza and Porto Alegre airports reached 1.1 million passengers, up 132.3%.
Fraport said the sharp rise resulted primarily from a non-recurring effect tied to the closure of Porto Alegre Airport in the same month last year due to severe flooding.
Lima Airport in Peru registered about 2.2 million passengers, a 6.3% increase from May 2024. Traffic at the 14 Greek regional airports operated by Fraport rose 1%, totaling 3.7 million passengers.
At the Bulgarian Black Sea airports of Burgas and Varna, passenger numbers rose 24.1% year-over-year to 222,806 travelers.
Antalya Airport in Turkey recorded about 3.9 million passengers, showing no change from the same month last year.
