It is our understanding that Mr. Engler has been arrested and was detained for his pro-Palestinian writing. It is not clear to us whether Mr. Engler has been charged or what charges he is facing. But if it is true that he has indeed been arrested and detained and is either facing charges or has already been charged, the actions taken by the Montreal Police raise serious questions about impartiality and respect for the fundamental rights to freedom of expression. The bail hearing for #YvesEngler resumes soon. People have been allowed back into the courtroom. The Crown prosecutor and Me John Philpot have discussed the bail conditions, in fact they are continuing to discuss matters while people await the return of the judge.

In fact, #YvesEngler was not at Montréal's Palais de Justice this morning for his bail hearing because, thanks to a "clerical error", his release from Bordeaux prison to attend his hearing was dated February 25th, instead of February 24th.
He should be in court this afternoon.
