You’re clearly not keen on a #FrequentFlyerLevy -fair enough.

Can’t tell if you've a smarter fix or if you’re saying we’ve blown it already and might as well watch the world burn from 30,000 feet. Could be you’re right but I’m still trying to land on “do something” over “not giving a flying fuck”

"I'm not into ecofascist responses either".

Which "response" were you referring to?

#FrequentFlyerLevy.

Who are the real “ecofascists”?

A) Those whose lifestyles cause the greatest damage
B) Those challenging this inequity
C) Other

Policies that focus responsibility where it belongs are more democratic because they protect the many from the negative impacts of the few

character constraints!

miss a city break=miss visiting parents again

The atmosphere doesn't care. GHG's are cumulative, last hundreds to thousands of years, no viable way of drawing them down or reasoning with them
Sustainable aviation❌
Airport expansion✅
Growing emissions✅

"miss out on a few city breaks" when there's no solution to fly tipped aviation emissions.

Maybe it comes down to whether you want to leave the world in a better place or feel that you should be able to do whatever you want, however you want, whenever you want

Character constraints are challenging!

The original point I was arguing against was: "A levy hammers them (families), more than business/holidaymakers"
This anecdote has now been put to rest as the data is 3:1 against. More so with a levy from flight No. 2 onwards p/yr

Sorry-I'm lost

We were in the UK 2024-76% of flights NOT for VFR. Your latest link switched to the EU which does NOT:

-specify how many flights or share of flights are VFR
-break out VFR vs holiday vs business in percentage terms

+ you still haven't proposed a GHG solution

Flying is the fastest fun way to burn the planet
A #FrequentFlyerLevy is an easy fix

1st flight= normal price
2nd= 2×
3rd= 4×
4th= 8×
5th= 16x
6th= 32x
7th= 64x
..and so on

An incentive not to fly would round this off
A simple fair fix for privileged emissions

Taxing frequent flyers across Europe would cut aviation emissions by a fifth - without any cost to the majority of people.

We have the tools we need to tackle the climate crisis - but our governments need to use them. #FrequentFlyerLevy

A Frequent Flyer Levy (FFL) would raise €64bn a year. This is equivalent to 30% of the entire EU budget; 24% of the amount needed to reach EU climate targets.

We can’t solve the climate crisis while the wealthiest pollute without limits.

Policies like a #FrequentFlyerLevy (FFL) can deliver real justice.

A Frequent Flyer Levy across Europe would raise €64bn a year - 1/4 of the total needed to reach EU climate targets.

"My top pick is from our work with @IpsosUK, which found that a #FrequentFlyerLevy was the most popular policy we tested with people across the country, because it was seen as fair. It really captures that inequality we know to be the case with carbon footprints."

"We recognise that demand management in aviation may well be something that @scotgov will need to look at - and the #FrequentFlyerLevy is certainly something we will explore - but as yet there is no ministerial commitment to demand management" - Bertrand Deiss @transcotland

I dislike much of the framing in the piece, but this passage is an important insight on the limitations of the carbon pricing approach, and outlines the basic underlying rationale for a #FrequentFlyerLevy

The Sun on Sunday clowns get some basic things wrong about the #FrequentFlyerLevy too - it’s applied to return journeys, so one tax free return flight followed by a small levy on the next return flight etc. This despite being sent a detailed explanation of how the policy works 🤔

Love to be a @UKLabour eco-zealot!But this is factually incorrect, unless by ‘ordinary families’ you mean households w income of over £115,000. Numbers of those on lower incomes who will pay more under a #FrequentFlyerLevy than they do today are v small...
