The theory was first explored in a 1929 short story called "Chains" by Hungarian writer #FrigyesKarinthy.
Later, experiments by #StanleyMilgram (yes, THAT Milgram) in the 1960s, & subsequent research, provided some empirical evidence supporting the concept.
