Australia’s longest and deadliest conflict is no longer deniable. The Australian Wars gathers generations of research and testimony into one defining volume — and makes clear that the truth is here. Time to reckon with it. #FrontierWars #TruthTelling #TheAustralianWars #PearlsandIrritations

Remember the time we put bad stuff in flour we gave to people whose land we were stealing?

There are estimated there are between 4000 and 5000 war memorials in Australia in large cities, suburbs, regional towns and villages, and on crossroads where villages once stood. What about a memorial for the war that happened here? #auspol #frontierwars
For 15 years each April 25, a quiet but powerful procession has walked up Anzac Parade in Canberra not in defiance, but in remembrance—seeking recognition for the first & longest war fought on this continent: the Frontier Wars.

10,374 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people were killed by colonists.
About half of all massacres were carried out by police and other government agents. Many others were perpetrated by settlers acting with tacit approval of the state.

What a brilliant piece on #FrontierWars on #abc730 ✔️✔️✔️
Truth telling time is when Australia really moves forward.
Well done @latingle showcasing the brilliant Rachel Perkins.

'What is also not present at the Memorial is any reference to the tens of thousands of people who died in the #FrontierWars in Australia, that occurred under the fiction of #TerraNullius declared in the name of the British...
Something to #history #teachers: Some excellent online resources related to the #FrontierWars have been published by Dr Ray Kerkhove. Students of #QCEModernHistory might find them of value.
The Corn Fields Raid of 1827-8 deserve some wider recognition.
This awesome resource was shared with me by @ms_colosimo. Ch 1 focuses on some of the lasting legacies of Australia's invasion colonisation. It may be an invaluable resource for teachers and students studying the #FrontierWars. If you'd like a copy send a DM. #QCEModernHistory
A fantastic #FrontierWars related art installation, by Vernon Ah Kee, is currently exhibited in Brisbane's Spring Hill Reservoir (under the Old Windmill). The site was the location of the 1841 execution of two Aboriginal men, Mullan and Ningavil.
I love how #QCEModernHistory students are now aware of the work of experts on the #FrontierWars: WE Stanner, Henry Reynolds, WR Johnston, Clive Moore, Timothy Bottoms, Ray Kerkhove, @StephenGapps, @LynleyWallis, Heather Burke, Nicholas Clements, Lyndall Ryan, Libby Connors, et al
First Nations' voice in studying the #FrontierWars is essential. That voice can be brought to the #History classroom through contemporary music.
"For thousands of years our people have communicated through song..." (@boeknow)
After a conversation with @boeknow, I've been wondering what words in Language, if any, were used that were conceptually close words like "invaders / colonisers / pastoralists / 'settlers'" (as used when studying the #FrontierWars period). Boe suggested "migaloo" (Bira). Others?
Henry Reynolds calls for a national museum to commemorate Australia's #FrontierWars.
An important article. #QCEModernHistory
Something for #history teachers to watch for. Set in the NT in 1919, #HighGround explores the violence of Australia’s #FrontierWars. #QCEModernHistory

I've enjoyed the @Foxtel #History series on Australian bushrangers, "Lawless". It's entertaining but sometimes I sense some incredulity at 19th century colonial police violence! Maybe Season 2 should be titled: Beyond Lawless: The Queensland Native Mounted Police.
