Answer to yesterday's post: Mole "Pinkies" (or pups)
We rarely see moles this young come into care - so we couldn't pass up sharing them with you, too!
After their nest was accidentally disturbed & their parents didn't return, kind rescuers brought them in for care.

Thank you to everyone who has donated whole, uncleaned, fresh (or fresh-frozen) trout/salmon! Bald Eagle 26-211 has a healthy appetite (as you can see here), and your donations are helping us keep up with it!

Answer to yesterday's post: A Cedar Waxwing!
This little bird (see the blueberry by its foot for size?) came in after striking a window. After care and monitoring, it's now very close to being released.
Did you know these birds can survive for months on only fruit?!

🌷 Today is the first day of spring & nature is definitely waking up. While many are out enjoying the first blooms, we're preparing for baby season & the thousands of wild animals that will need our help this year. 🪺

🔔 BALD EAGLE 26-211 UPDATE 🦅
Another hurdle cleared! This eagle tested NEGATIVE for Avian Influenza (HPAI). Paired with the lead-free results, this is fantastic news.
So far, the eagle is doing well in care and feasting on donated trout! 🐟
Radiographs coming soon!

🌬️ On windy days, baby season gets busy. Keep an eye out for babies blown from branches or fallen trees. If you find an animal in need, get them to a local wildlife rehabilitator ASAP for the best chance at survival! 🐿️🪺🐣🦝

We recently took in 3 Western Gray Squirrel "pinkies" after their nest fell out of a tree. Look how tiny they are!
To give a sense of their size, adult weights range from 500 to 950 grams, with an average of about 790 grams.

When winter snacks run low, wildlife gets creative! One of our team members spotted this Anna’s Hummingbird enjoying a damaged apple — one of the last on the tree after the storms. Usually, nectar and gnats are on the menu, but a little improvisation goes a long way. 🍎✨

Our first patient of 2026 came in on New Year’s Day. This little House Finch arrived after being found in someone’s yard unable to open its eyes due to conjunctivitis. After some treatment and rest it’s eating, drinking, and looks to be recovering well. ❤️🩹

👀 This Great Horned Owl’s face says it all. We’re amazed by the support we received through 2025 and our end-of-year push. From online gifts to checks still arriving in the mail, thank you. As we step into 2026, this gives us a strong start! 💚🦉

Storms can leave wildlife in a pinch! Earlier this year, a Fox Squirrel family lost their nest after their tree fell due to wind & rain. Keep an eye on critters during rainy weather, & remember to check in with your local wildlife rehabilitation organization if they need help.

Just when we thought six bear cubs was our record…along came number seven! 🐻 ID #25-3865 arrived after being found orphaned in the Tahoe area. Confirmed healthy, he is doing well, & should be released in the spring with the other cubs currently in our care.

Have you ever seen a bear den being built? Six snoozing cubs were safely closed into one half of Summit University while we upgraded the other. Now they’re exploring the new den and enjoying new enrichment when they are up between their long naps.
