Lead exposure occurs when birds of prey encounter ammunition fragments or fishing tackle left in the environment. One of the best ways to help prevent lead poisoning in these beautiful creatures is by choosing non-lead alternatives. (3/3)

Most bald eagles that come into our care show some exposure to lead, but this individual had extremely high levels. This left the eagle weak, lethargic, and unable to fly, which likely contributed to its injuries. (1/3)
