The author also wrote a three paragraph essay on why they put this game on their list. Transcript: I played through The Case of the Golden Idol late last year and I absolutely loved it, the world building and story really was second to none and when it popped up on Game Pass this year I couldn’t resist going back into it and also playing the DLC which I hadn’t previously done. So I was ready for Rise and it didn’t disappoint, in fact, it exceeded my expectations. I’ll be talking about this more soon, but I love solving puzzles in games and I purposely sought out narrative puzzle games this year. This made Rise of the Golden Idol come in at just the right time with its intricate puzzle scenes that are so well crafted but never feel cheap. In fact, I really like the fact that they decided to make the final puzzle sequence easier than the first game’s final sequence clearly seeing that people struggled with that one. I’m also glad to say I got through this without using a single hint despite the occasion (The museum specifically) of looking at the scene, getting all the hints and thinking, “uh…what?” That all being said, puzzles are nothing without a world to live in and I just love the expansion of this world and moving forward into the future. There is some really clever writing here and the resolutions to the characters you come to know work so well. Telling the story out of sequence also had me going back to older scenes to pick up character bits as I slowly weaved everything together. I’m very excited for the DLC to come because not only do I want to get in there and solve some more puzzles, I want to see how this world is expanded further.

Great co-op fun. Their reasoning for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor being: A fantastic "Vampire Survivor" type of game that was my other go-to in terms of podcast vibing. This game is something special.

Some might call MadBootsy's GOTY 2024 list a bit late but that doesn't mean it isn't worth checking out on Giant Bomb!

A user-created GOTY 2024 list on Giant Bomb and this screenshot shows the author of this list has put Until Then as their #3. Their justification for why reads as: Another great narrative game. It's also set in the Philippines, which is pretty unique, as far as I'm aware. You play as Mark. After a series of disasters around the world, everyone is trying to recover in their own way. However, after it becomes apparent that people are myteriously disappearing, as well as experiencing some contradictive memories, he is gradually drawn into figuring out what's going on. Most of the game takes place in a school setting, and it's interspersed with mini-games. It also deals with some pretty heavy subjects, but they're all handled respectfully. Like Videoverse, it's a very touching game. Another solid recommendation for fans of narrative games! ...Also, Cath is the best! (Note: As this game came out in 2024, you could consider it my 2024 GOTY...of sorts.)

AdzPearson only felt comfortable putting five games on their GOTY 2024 list this year, but don't use that as an excuse not to check out what they published on Giant Bomb!
