A galactic civilization isn't something that only exists in the far future.

It is an idea, that is grasped here and now. A powerful idea. Powerful enough to change the world. Put it on a better course.

I believe that.

We're still here.

Let's start where we are now.

The Last Astronomer
By Krishna Prasanth Guttikonda

In the distant future, humanity has turned its back on the stars. The once-thriving space exploration programs have been abandoned, and the curiosity that once propelled humankind to the edges of the universe has faded into a distant memory. But for one man, the desire to look up and search the heavens remains unshaken.

Mara Singh, an elderly astronomer, still spends her nights peering through telescopes, hoping to find something—anything—that could spark the interest of a world that has forgotten its cosmic roots. Her dedication is unyielding, even as the world around her grows indifferent to the vastness of the universe. But when Mara detects an anomalous signal coming from deep space, everything changes.

In a race against time, Mara teams up with Elias, a disillusioned scientist who has lost his faith in the power of discovery, and a rebellious teenager, Ryker, who is eager to break free from the constraints of a society that no longer values knowledge. Together, they embark on a journey that will not only reshape their lives but also reignite humanity’s curiosity about the stars.

As they work to decode the alien signal, they uncover evidence of an ancient civilization far more advanced than anything humanity has ever imagined. What they find could change everything—unlocking new technologies, insights into the nature of life, and a deeper understanding of the universe itself. But the knowledge comes at a cost. Powerful forces are determined to control the discoveries for their own gain, and not everyone is ready to face the truth about the universe’s mysteries.

As tensions rise, Mara, Elias, and Ryker must decide whether they will share the truth with the world, even if it means shattering the foundation of society as they know it. Their journey will take them beyond Earth, into the unknown reaches of space, where the very survival of humanity depends on their ability to understand the message of the stars.…

Of course, we can study distribution of liquid water relative to gravity potential. This will give insight into how likely life will form, but it might not be accurate for observer moments. If we can go further, then it would be amazing.

I'll stop this thread here.

We don't know the answers yet.

As a civilization, we know next to nothing about the universe that there is to know.

Even if we try everything we can, then all of it might be just like a flash: Gone.

However, it might be fun! 😜

This is how the science for building a galactic civilization works. Invest in the future: Your own children. Which means reading skills and emotional bonds around it.

We're not waiting for permission of start a galactic civilization.

We're starting it NOW.

The modern architecture of the computer, the von Neumann architecture, was designed with the motivation von Neumann had one day to send robots to Mars and build stuff so we could send humans there.

This is kind of the inspiration we're looking for. Start thinking long term.

It's just a machine. We build enough of these machines with wind energy or tidal energy. There is more than enough energy.

Just stop this nonsense.

Aren't you tired of fighting? Of being scammed over and over?

We can just start a galactic civilization. Let's get it done.

The Galactic Race Has Already Begun (And We're Losing) The universe is 13.8 billion years old, with trillions of galaxies and countless worlds. So... where is everybody? This is the Fermi Paradox, the great cosmic mystery of our time. But what if the answer isn't that we're late to the party, but that we're the first ones to arrive? In this episode, we explore a chilling and exhilarating solution to the Great Silence: that humanity is one of the universe's first spacefaring civilizations. We'll journey through the impossibly difficult steps required for life to reach for the stars and propose that we exist in a uniquely perfect window for cosmic expansion. But there's a catch. We explore the terrifying idea that the first "loud" civilization to expand creates a cosmic deadline for everyone else, consuming resources and boxing in any latecomers. This isn't just a thought experiment; it's a potential galactic race that has already begun, and we don't even know we're in it. The only way to win is to get loud, and get loud now. Stick with us to the very end to learn about the one astronomical observation we could make tomorrow that would prove this entire terrifying theory right. This is the most important conversation about humanity's future. Subscribe, share this with anyone who looks up at the stars and wonders, and let's stake our claim in the cosmos.
