When I grew peas in my previous garden, I dug trenches then put compostable items such as vegetable peelings in the bottom, before planting the peas. Always got a good crop. #gardenchat
On my morning walk I spotted Bunya Pines dropping their massive cones 🌲
A fascinating reminder of just how ancient and powerful these Australian trees are.

Nasturtiums are easy to grow and totally edible—flowers, leaves, and seeds! 🌼🌿 Plant in full sun, poor soil, and water sparingly. Pick blooms when fully open for the best flavor—peppery like rocket. Toss into salads, stuff with cream cheese, or use as a vibrant garnish. #edibleflowers #gardenchat
This is going to sound crazy... but I think I won the battle against the gopher in my garden using chemical warfare*!!!!!
*I put some dirt that the neighbor's dog peed on down the gopher holes
yes, I live a glamorous life 💅

Courgette flowers are edible and delicious! 🌼 Grow them in rich soil with plenty of sun. Pick male flowers (no fruit behind) early in the morning when open. Stuff with ricotta, batter & fry, or toss raw into salads for a delicate treat. A short-lived beauty—harvest before they wilt! #gardenchat

Good point, I had a hover without a box and I spent more time raking and sweeping up. So I bought a one with wheels and a grass box. I compost the cuttings too. #gardenchat
Spring is the perfect time to forage wild garlic! Its tender leaves are bursting with flavour—ideal for making garlic butter (freeze it for later) or a punchy pesto. A seasonal treat that brings the wild into your kitchen! #foraging #wildgarlic #springrecipes #gardenchat
Sunshade companions: Sow turnips beside tall crops like peas, runner beans, sweetcorn, or tomatoes. Their shade keeps turnips cool and tender—no woody roots! Another tip: keep soil moist with mulch to help retain water and suppress weeds. Healthy roots = tastier harvests! #gardenchat #growyourown

I planted these 4 spreading yews in 2015. They are thriving but have required supplemental watering in the ongoing drought. #gardens #gardening #gardenchat #weather #landscaping

This is my garden dome in Ohio that we built with a few friends in 2015. I share a lot of the cool science that goes on in there. So far this autumn season we’ve not gone below 45°f with all the mass in there… wanna hear more? #gardenchat

Purple swollen bean pods hanging from the vine. The variety is 'Cherokee Trail of Tears' & is a heritage Native American bean. Easy to grow most places that runner beans grow. I struggled to get a good crop in Dunedin but they produce heaps in Nelson.
The bean pods picked & drying. Once the pods start drying on the plant & the bean plant itself starts dropping leaves, that's the time to harvest the pods.
A container of small shiny blackish beans, slightly smaller than a kidney bean. I shelled them about 2 weeks after picking them.
Home made chilli with my beans, tomatoes, zucchini & home grown cayenne.
How to grow your own chilli beans in 4 steps.
It is absolutely possible to do home grown protein as a vegetarian.

Ahhh, you've got hostas, I think that's the favourite dish for slugs. I've read a suggestion of buying decoy plants to save the ones you like the most, but they get through things so fast I'd need to buy one every other day. #gardenchat
Oddly, the slugs which demolish the hostas and strawberries haven’t touched the dahlias. I’d better check my fuchsias for gall mites. #gardenchat
