from the museum's webpage: During his visit to Cuenca in the summer of 1910 Beruete particularly focused on this part of the city, which overlooks the river Huécar. The very low viewpoint allowed the artist to show the fertile nature of this area of market gardens and also emphasise the uniqueness of the city’s architecture, with the monastery of San Pablo standing out on the left.

In the centre of the painting, we can see a white-coloured fountain. The area around the fountain is dominated by low-growing plants. These plants look more greyish than green. In the background, we can see trees with autumnal leaves. The centre part of the picture is arranged in a very symmetrical manner.

from Sotheby's webpage: the present work depicts the Casería de Buena Vista - also known as the Casería de la Bailarina - the childhood home of the famous Spanish dancer Pepita Duran y Ortega, grandmother of the English author and garden designer Vita Sackville-West. Its garden was dominated by an ornate form of cypress topiary known as a bailarina, consisting of several cypress trees in a circle, joined at the crown to resemble a gothic cupola reminiscent of Moorish architecture. The surrealist painting shows a grey big mansion with dark windows. It is surrounded by gardens and forests. There is also a lake on the left of the building. In the foreground, we can see ghosts in the landscape. They are all kind of moving. On the right, two more poeple are seen with a big cat-like animal in front of them.

A big red flower dominates the painting. It is not just because of its red colour but also because of its size. There are many more colours in the picture that gather around this central plant. There is a blueish circle around the central flower, which consists of other flowers and bushes. It looks like a halo to the central flower.

Hiepes presents a plethora of attractive elements in a delightful landscaped patio. A large bench adorned with ceramic tiles bears a variety of spermatophyte plants in large glazed decorative flowerpots, each of its own design. There are also two open baskets—one with flowers and the other with sprays that might be jasmines arranged in the biznaga manner associated with Malaga—as well as flowers on the ground; a large pot of carnations and a fruit tree. A wooden chair with a leather seat stands at the centre of the composition, and the small, fragile and charming little dog perched upon it (the text is taken from the Prado's webpage)

The terraced garden is situated in the centre of the painting and in the shade. It looks much darker than the rest of the landscape. Bushes and trees surround the terraces. The finca itself is located to the left of the terraces. In the foreground, the landscape appears less dense, yet still carefully cultivated; to the left, a stone wall is visible.

Bar chart showing annual temperature changes in Spain from about 1850 to 2024, relative to the 1961–2010 average. Bars below zero (blue tones) represent cooler years; bars above zero (orange to red tones) represent warmer years. The early period (1850–1970) is dominated by cooler years, with occasional warmer years in the early 20th century and mid-20th century. From the late 1980s onward, the chart shows a steady and pronounced warming trend, with recent years (post-2000) in deep red, indicating temperatures more than 1 °C above the baseline.
