Our goal in 2026 is to get funding in the 2027 city budget to start a generous subsidy program tied to good, union jobs to upgrade 1-2 family homes to high energy efficiency. Program would start in 2027. #GasFreeNYC
We held our first organizing meeting in Wakefield in the Bronx yesterday for #GasFreeNYC:

At NYCC, we’re pushing @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and the @council.nyc.gov to enact #GasFreeNYC, which would include big heat pump subsidies to make buying them financially positive for low income homeowners, focused on 1-2 family homes.
We are in a climate crisis, and our utility bills are too high! On 3/5 in Manhattan, @nypirg.bsky.social and our coalition partners gathered for a #GasFreeNYC rally! We rallied for an end to dirty, expensive oil and gas boilers and in support of energy-efficient, money-saving heat pumps. 🌍

One way to look at the #GasFreeNYC effort is to build up homeowners wealth and prime asset in those communities.
Policy blueprint here, and the initial $10m we’re seeking would be focused on these communities if we have our way.

One thing that’s interesting about the neighborhoods that we’re focused on for #GasFreeNYC is that neither Mamdani’s primary nor general election campaign door-knocked them. (That was an effective choice for limited volunteers, but also these nabes matter, which mamdani knows) 🧵
