TIL that the German word for balliwick is Vogtei, unless you're talking about a balliwick of a chilvaric order which is then called a "Ballei". The husband my husband's first cousin once removed was born in Codlea/Zeiden, Romania, which was a balliwick of the Teutonic Order. #Geneaology
Most of my #Irish ancestors & relatives are from Ballinrobe, Mayo & Limerick. My closest relative in this line is one of my 3rd great-grandfathers. 🫶❤️

#geneaology This is why I love genealogy so much. It turns out Nathaniel Bonnell is my 7th great grandfather; Daniel Boone married my 3rd cousin. It's a treasure hunt, you never know what you'll find. I wish by dad was here to share my findings with.
Just completed another soldier's story for WDYTYA? Fairly straightforward infantry tale of 1915-1919, but features Fovant and Hill 60 - two sites that I would have thought might make for good filming - along with Bourlon Wood. We shall see. #ww1 #geneaology
#geneaology is so interesting, it reminds me of those ant farms kids get, you go one way & then all of a sudden you're going a totally different way. Some of it has no effect & then something else makes me cry. If I enjoyed history this much in school I probably would have done better.
Good morning, good morning, good morning...My family is on the road today on their way home from Virginia Tech so I decided to hope online to do some genealogy. it's been a bit and I miss interacting with my ancestors. I figured I'd do a bit of "live" tracking my process today :) #geneaology

My 2nd cousin 4x removed George Paget married a distant relative whose name was Agnes Paget. He also had a half sister whose name was, wait for it: AGNES PAGET. But she married a Byng so we're good. #geneaology

My jaw dropped. I can't believe I found this YouTube video only days after posting about the Burchfield 1927 Baker Roll interview for the Eastern Band of Cherokee. My kin weren't lying.
Still, what happened to Oo-wa-hoo-kee?

I was looking at how closely related I am to various famous people on FamilySearch.org, and discovered that I'm as closely related to Taylor Swift as I am to Michelle Obama. (10th cousin once removed)
Not sure what I should take from that.

I was honestly most excited at the idea we might be from Yorkshire at all, because, you know, that's the Raven King's country. (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell fangirl, here)

Southeastern England & Northwestern Europe 49% The regions along the English Channel share more than a thousand years of history. Southern England, French Normandy, and the Low Countries of Belgium and the Netherlands have been linked by trade, conquest, and cultural exchange since medieval times. Imported Cotswold wool was spun by Flemish weavers, Norman stones and architectural styles shaped English cathedrals. Such commercial connections preceded William the Conqueror's 1066 invasion, which transformed English history and language. Centuries later, these coastlines became battlegrounds during the World Wars of the 1900s. Today, the Channel Tunnel, shipping routes, and airlines continue the connection, linking England and mainland Europe. Where do people with this region live? Primarily located in: England Also found in: Belgium, Channel Islands, France, Netherlands

Library Tip #20: Engage in genealogical research at libraries near you. Many libraries give patrons access to Ancestry.com's "library edition" on site. Some public libraries also have incredible nondigitized genealogical collections; often specific to the area where that library is located. Centre County Library & Historical Museum logo.
Access the library edition of Ancestry.com onsite at our locations in Bellefonte, Centre Hall, or Philipsburg. Our extensive paper genealogical records are also available at the #PARoom between 12 and 5 PM M-F. These resources are provided to you for FREE!
