Today ran, for the 1st time in 2 weeks, in the middle of the day in French heat (took that long before daily breakfast & caravan clean-up were done) - though when it was till cloudy. Great to run by the sea, & nice to keep up my stamina, & have some time to listen to my audiobook #GenuineJuly #Day31

Today both my children, separately, sang at karaoke. It is lovely to see them with the confidence to do this, and for them to get good reception from the audience #GenuineJuly #Day30

I’ve been up since 4am, & am doing well for the long journey. Now-while I know a caravan in France is a nice holiday that we’ll enjoy-I’m kind of wishing for more creature comforts, & less ants. Will treat tomorrow as my unpacking/settling in day-no pressure to do water aerobics #GenuineJuly #Day29

Today my daughter & I had a discussion about whether you’re meant to say hello to someone serving you in a shop (she thinking it was funny that I always do). (She’d always be polite-it was the hello we were debating). We tested it out in the next shop & had a lovely conversation #GenuineJuly #Day28

Today, as well as lots of clothes washing and sorting, I(/we) have cooked Pancakes, Carrot and walnut soup, Courgette butter pasta and Apple for the freezer. Lots accomplished! #GenuineJuly #Day27

Today we played three games of Mexican Train between the four of us. I played two of the games, and did abysmally in both of them, but so enjoyed playing. Hoping for many more games (of this, and other things) over the summer. #GenuineJuly #Day26

Tonight my son got a trophy from chess club, as a junior whose activities should be recognised. As well as this, it was great to listen at the AGM to reports & discussions - so many people organising chess things.

(I tried to take a photo, but the trophy is too reflective!)

Today I was working for half a day, in the middle of loads of annual leave. I could do with more of this, to get over the email backlog and do some other work. But it was nice anyway. #GenuineJuly #Day24

Tonight I am home, having had a sad occasion, with lovely moments, with wonderful people, and a long long journey home. Glad to be back home tonight, very late. And working for a bit tomorrow. #GenuineJuly #Day23

Today officially yesterday) I went on a boat trip with family and saw lots of birds and seals. I love how things I don’t think about much can become important for a couple of hours #GenuineJuly #Day22

Today I spent many hours sitting in the middle of the back seat of a full (with family) car, being driven up the country. This got rather achey. But I got to have a wonderful stop for lunch with more family, & time spent eating & talking with more family after we arrived tonight. #GenuineJuly #Day21

This evening I’ve made a small start on our next jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes I post a finished puzzle on here for my #GenuineJuly (or whatever I’m doing that month-details of my daily reflection practice here researcherlibrarian.wordpress.com/2024/05/22/b...) Today a starting picture felt right. #Day20

Today I returned two borrowed things that have been sitting in the hall for weeks. One because the person we borrowed it from asked if we still had it (oops) and then other inspired by this. I hope this will be a lesson to me to not not do things for no reason. It probably won’t. #GenuineJuly #Day19

Today was a funeral, for someone close. One of those weird days when you’re spending time with family and beyond - which is a nice thing - but for a sad reason. Lots of memories and catch ups and emotions and practicalities.

I’ve been kind of exhausted since getting home. #GenuineJuly #Day18

Today I hung the washing out on the line-especially good for the sheet and duvet cover backlog. Nice to have a sunny day. (Have also been out for lunch, to the shops, done jigsaw puzzle, read my book, done #systematicreview work, played games, made meals, cleared…) #GenuineJuly #Day17

Today I took myself out for a coffee (which ended up as lunch) to do my monthly reflection. I randomly stopped at a cafe I used to go to weekly when my children were little, attending, and for a while running (with others), a support group at. The jacket potatoes are still good. #GenuineJuly #Day16

This evening I went with my parents to a meet-up for a local group. This was nice. More notable was the weather. The event was outside, despite the rain (tho under trees). The longer we were there the more it was tipping it down. We walked back through a downpour and puddles! #GenuineJuly #Day15

This afternoon I lay down to read my book, and feel asleep for at least an hour, maybe two.. So good to catch up a bit on sleep - and such a rarity! #GenuineJuly #Day14

This afternoon I spent a long time making a meal that I haven’t made for years. Lots of ingredients, lots of steps. It turned out well. Hoping I’m rediscovering my joy in cooking interesting recipes #GenuineJuly #Day13

Tonight I used our new wok to make one of our regular meals. It felt so different using a new pan that isn’t all scraped and messed up - so easy to stir. Just hope we can keep this one nice for a while #GenuineJuly #Day12

Today when I got home from #CILIPconf24 my children wanted goodies (as they always do when I come back from a conference). I love their negotiation over who gets what - even though we all that afterwards I’m going to put most of it away and bring it out gradually as I/we need it #GenuineJuly #Day11

I didn’t do my #GenuineJuly #Day10 yesterday (I did do many other posts…). I think it has to be the round of applause that went round the room when England equalised. The football was unobtrusive in the corner during the #CILIPconf24 gala dinner, but lots of us were keeping a little eye on it

Fruit of Friendship | Portraits by Mary Beale Philip Mould & Company's forthcoming exhibition, “Fruit of Friendship”: Portraits by Mary Beale

Today I went, with my husband, to an art exhibition in central London. Fascinating to learn about artist Mary Beale, and her husband Charles. Very interesting 17th century people. And wonderful paintings. Also great to wonder the streets together and have a pub lunch #GenuineJuly #Day9

A break from work …or is it? An academic librarian's thoughts about taking annual leave, including work related and non-work activities, and systematic review progress,

Today I was back at work for half a day, having been off all last week (as detailed in my recent blog post…). I managed to get through reading (well, opening) all my emails, and even replied to a few #GenuineJuly #Day8

Today I went out with my children to Chess Fest. The weather held out for a while, then it was tipping it down. As I was crowded into a training tent with playing chess, and others watching, looking out over Trafalgar Square & the National Gallery, I knew this would be today’s #GenuineJuly #Day7

Today I went with my children to the cinema, for the first time in ages, to see Inside Out 2. My daughter has been campaigning for us to see this for quite a while, and I’m really glad we did. #GenuineJuly #Day6

While I’ve not been particularly active for the last few years, as I became disillusioned & needed to pull back to avoid the stress, I’ve enjoyed following all the post-election coverage today, on tv & online, & now catching up with podcasts. #GenuineJuly #Day5 I’m still going, on 3 hours sleep…!

I got some good news today, that I can’t talk about yet. Will involve lots of (interesting) work for later Alice, but for now I can just enjoy it. #GenuineJuly #Day3

Today I finished my run at the shops &, in addition shopping (including a new jigsaw) I went to a coffee shop by myself & sat down. This was lovely. I was informed after purchasing that I needed to download the app as I have a free coffee expiring, so I may do the same tomorrow #GenuineJuly #Day2

Today I made a new meal for dinner (learnt about on here), and it was a success - one to make again #GenuineJuly #Day1. (I’ve also spent quite a while this evening looking up J, and then G with a j sound, positive adjectives).
