Chroniques de l'an 18 : et autres chroniques, 1916 Isaac Babel Les Chroniques de l'an 18 rassemblent de courts textes qui tous évoquent la situation de Pétrograd pendant les quelques mois d'état d'urgence de l'an 18, alors que la guerre civile faisait rage. Babel, observateur attentif et chroniqueur minutieux, rend compte, sans transformation aucune et sans avoir recours à la fiction, d'une réalité terrifiante. Et de souligner, dans l'un des récits, Premiers secours (qui évoque l'organisation - ou plutôt sa cruelle absence - de soins d'urgence pour les blessés), que "Chez nous, il n'y a rien, ni secours, ni urgence. Ce qu'il y a - c'est une ville de trois millions d'habitants, sous-alimentée, violemment ébranlée dans la base même de son existence.
