GEOxyz opens first African branch at Walvis Bay
International geospatial and marine data services firm GEOxyz has announced the establishment of its first African branch at Walvis Bay.
According to a statement issued by the company, Namibia was chosen as GEOxyz’s regional headquarters due to its central location, stable business environment, and increasing demand for specialised survey services across both offshore and onshore infrastructure sectors.
“The new office aims to efficiently support projects throughout southern Africa from this strategic position,” reads the statement.
Jacques Vancayseele from Belgium has been appointed as chief executive of the company in Namibia after seven years with the company.
His appointment is expected to facilitate a strong integration between GEOxyz’s European origins and its new African presence.
“With a dedicated local presence, we are better positioned to deliver tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of our clients while contributing to local growth and development,” says Vancayseele.
The new office will initially function as a collaborative effort between GEOxyz’s European and African teams, with a stated long-term objective of evolving into a fully independent, locally-led operation.
GEOxyz says it is committed to hiring local talent, forming partnerships with regional institutions, and investing in knowledge transfer.
“The company also plans to continue its existing collaborations with local educational institutions to train future marine data specialists and surveyors,” reads the statement.
“Opening our Namibian office is a natural next step in GEOxyz’s global expansion. Having someone as experienced and locally embedded as Jacques at the helm ensures we can grow with purpose – combining our international standards with a deep understanding of the southern African context,” says GEOxyz chief executive Patrick Reyntjens.
Reyntjens says the company’s broader global strategy indicates future expansions are anticipated in other regions, including West Africa, Asia and South America.
From its Walvis Bay base, GEOxyz will offer a comprehensive suite of data services.
These include offshore hydrographic and geophysical surveys, as well as onshore services such as infrastructure mapping for railroads and land development.
