A very tall redwood tree dominates the frame, viewed from a low angle looking upwards. Its thick, reddish-brown bark is deeply textured. Lush green foliage of its own needles and branches forms a canopy overhead, with glimpses of the sky. The wide base of the tree rests on the garden floor, surrounded by wood chips, ferns, and other diverse green plants and shrubs typical of Butchart Gardens. The overall impression is one of grandeur and the immense size of the tree.

This tree sits near a rare Second World War air shelter. It has to be over 200 years old, at a guess I’d say more like double. It’s 4 of me across and over 60 feet tall and this is the crazy part, it’s an Oak tree. #giantoak #gianttree
